I don't know how Luka Garza is related to Jalen Johnson's situation, but Jay Bilas decided it is

He led his conference in assists at 5/game?

Then Jalen Johnson's parents should be a little more out there like Frank, nothing stopping them of which I'm aware.
Sounds like the "experts" in your "profession" need to be called out over a coach of 40+ years who has forgotten more than you clowns know.

I didn’t hear what Jim Boeheim said regarding this situation, but clearly he disagreed with the kid leaving and I do too! The kid committed to Duke for this season and leaving early because of injury and wanted to get ready for the NBA is a selfish act and I mentality which doesn’t work in a team concept. Why Luka and his family where brought into the conversation is baffling!
Luka is a hard worker, a team player and a kid who has busted his ass for 4 years and is reaping the rewards of the oats he sewed! Comparing Luka to a quitter is insulting!

If you don't like it then petition the NBA to change their draft rules. Duke knows what they are getting when they sign a bunch of one and done players out of high school. I suspect this is why coach K is 100% behind his decision. The kid, his parents, and his coach are all okay with his decision. It's you and Coach Boeheim who appear to be overreacting to a situation you aren't involved in. The kid isn't "quitting" he's making the decision he feels allows him to advance the furthest in his basketball career, the same thing Luka did.

He's basically saying: Luka's family is heavily involved in his basketball career and people highlight this as a positive. Jalen's family was involved in this decision, and people are calling them a "camp", which has negative undertones. I think its a pretty weak link to make, but I see what he's going for and its definitely racial.

Well yeah because their decisions were the exact opposite!?

I think he had a good idea when he brought Luka and Frank into the convo, but he didn’t complete the argument for the idea on the air. It should be celebrated when a player works with his family to decide what is best for him. Much better than agents or hanger-ons whispering in their ear. Frank is celebrated for the work he does with Luka in improving his game. I think his point is why doesn’t this kid’s parents get celebrated too?

The point of college is to learn, become a well rounded individual, and prepare yourself for obtaining a job. If the Duke kid has done what it takes to prepare for a job making a bunch of money, then good for him. If I got a job offer for 2MM/year while I was still a student and it wasn’t contingent on earning my degree, I’m dropping out of school and making bank. Anyone who wouldn’t is an idiot. This isn’t like football where a 3rd rounder comes back to become a 1st rounder which earns them a lot more money over the life of their career. Staying on the team for another month won’t earn him any more money next year.

Bizarre, the mental gymnastics people will perform in order to allege something is racial.
I used to feel this way too. I have come to understand that it’s probably true. We just don’t think about it.
I bet he’s correct. If Luka were black, people would probably be talking about the “Garza Camp.”
I don’t think the intent is racial, but it probably is indeed racial.

NCAA BB is slowly becoming a macro version of the Saturday afternoon pick up BB games at the fieldhouse or any other communal gym. There’s the A court and B court of hand picked teams with respective talent level that just put in their work and possibly dominate in the short term. But then have to reset for the next cycle.

<<(A)nd it's definitely racial>>

Yeah, you never see ESPN et al ignoring the "race card". I think Bilas would have made it a better point if he expounded on it a bit.

I'd rather force the NBA to change, than hand them a petition with my name on it.........but I'm more direct like that.

I get where Bilas is coming from, but do think that a difference between Garza and Johnson’s parents is that Frank really puts himself out there, is highly active on social media, engages with fans, etc. A lot of people know his story/brand.

It’s like the Lavar Ball situation a few years back. Nobody was referring to him as “Lonzo Ball’s camp.” Everything was “Lonzo Ball’s dad” or “Lavar Ball.” The family’s exposure to the media may play as much a factor in how the media refers to them, if not more so, than race does. It’s easier to refer to the group consisting of a player’s family and friends as a “camp,” than actually going out of your way to do research on and talk to the people involved in the decision

Jalen Johnson went to three high schools. One would assume his family was compliant with those decisions also. He might spend his life searching for something that doesn’t exist... a world designed around him.

I think you’re on to something. Probably more about not knowing who is around the kid, therefore calling it his “camp”, rather than it being disrespectful. Nobody has a clue who’s giving the kid advice. Unless it’s obvious when the parents are involved to the point where they are recognized, like Frank is with Luka or Lavar with his kids.

Exactly. In the statement Johnson put out where he said that he was opting out, he said that it was a decision made between him, his family, and Coach K. Who “family” consists of specifically can differ greatly from person to person. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Boeheim never even read the statement
