Beyond The Arc
... about you all, but for some reason (chuckle) I'm getting excited for the upcoming season. Should be fun to watch the team and we may be in for some surprises. With things kicking off with Jewell College on the 27th, and Kreiner with the "chip" sewn on his shoulder, it should be interesting. Fran is doing great with the program, and the future looks bright.

Speaking of Wm. Jewell, Byron Harp from Ankeny and Kirkwood, and now with Jewell, its all about a homecoming.

Again, it should be fun this year. Enjoy!

I pay 10 bucks a month for BTN2GO. I just hope they have improved the moments when the game begins. Looking forward to see what Mac McCausland thinks about the team.

Is Iowa playing an exhibition game against Wm Jewell on the 27th? Hadn't heard that. Wm Jewell is an NAIA Div1 school in Liberty,Mo. about 10 miles north of KC. They're a really good NAIA school, but seems like a pretty long travel for them to go to Iowa.

Absolutely correct, they're Div. 2. They play the Hawks on the 27th and it will be shown on BTN Plus. 7PM Central Time.

I thought Jewell had moved up to Div1 several years ago. They and Mid America Nazarene (DIV1) are some of the top NAIA teams in the area. Both are always very good. Still NAIA though so, I wouldn't think they would push the Hawks to much......

The William Jewell Cardinals are the official athletic teams of the college. The college is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level and competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).[17][18] Prior to its transition to the NCAA Division II, the college competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a member of the Heart of America Conference.[18][19]

Looks like they struggled last year (9-17). FWIW, the other exhibition team (Belmont Abbey) is D2 and finished 10-11. Former Iowa Director Ops, Billy Taylor, is the coach there.

I like it when Iowa goes out and plays local and regional teams; good for the fans of those schools and helps build good will.

OK thanks Hawks for 3. I didn't realize they had jumped from NAIA to NCAA div2. My youngest played at another local NAIA school and was recruited by Jewell. His senior year was the only time we beat them. They were very good in the Heart of America. There had been a lot of talk about them moving up to NAIA div1. Didn't realize they went up to NCAA DIV2 instead. I guess I'm out of the loop, as my son graduated in 2008, and haven't paid much attention since then. The local area has a number of very strong NCAA div2 teams, so that probably has something to do if Jewell has struggled since moving up. Northwest MO. State is always good, and Pittsburg State. Central Mo. State won the national title a few years back, and that got Kim Anderson the job at Mizzou. Didn't work out to well for him there though.
