Pretty amazing how quickly Michigan State could turn themselves into an "also ran". Pretty good reminder for the set of Iowa fans that are always clamoring for a change.

They had a run like Iowa did from 02-05, probably a better one. They were never sustaining that

Wonder what those numbers would be if it only showed B1G Ten wins and losses?

Conference records (to hard to list everyone so I picked Hawks and our friends to the west). If you go back 10 years, Nebby was 43-41 in conference (5 yr 18-26) so most of wins were pre 2016. Iowa was 50-34 and 5 yr was 27-17. Oh, the last 5 yr just missed 2015 when we went 8-0. So for 5-6 years recently Iowa is doing well and Nebby not so much.
By the way, NW was 27-17 the last 5 years but very inconsitent. Wins last 5 : 5,7,8,1,6

They had one more recent then that. When Big brother in the big house had Rich Rod, and Hoke at the wheel MSU climbed over them both on the field and in the recruiting wars. All the negative Karma that the creep Dantonio built up finally caught up to him, THANK GOD!

People give Kirk a lot of crap for being an 8-4 guy with an occasional 10 wins, however, just think what he could do at a school like Michigan where he is bringing in top 10 and 15 recruiting classes year in and out. He wins 8-10 games a year while for the most part recruiting in the 30's and low 40's. How Harbaugh has lasted this long with that record at Michigan is beside me, especially with the recruits he has and with record against tOSU. Harbaugh should be somewhere between 80-85% in my book.

2015 is an awfully convenient year to start, huh?

From 10-15 MSU went 11-2 (14 AP), 11-3 (#11), 7-6, 13-1 (#3), 11-2 (#5), 12-2 (#6) with a big ten co championship, a legends division championship, 2 outright bten championships, and Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl championships. In '17 they were 10-3 (#15) and they went 7-6 in '18 and '19. They were 4-2 vs Iowa in that time.

Dantonio maybe an ass but in the decade prior to the pandemic and their coaching change there's no doubt who the better coach and program was. That's not a knock on Kirk, just an acknowledgement of what they accomplished. We shall see what they are going forward but calling them an also ran might be premature.

Interestingly enough, I'm not sure how well he'd do with a program full of 4 and 5 stars. My knee jerk reaction is that he'd tear it up, but, as the sayings go: "upon further review"...."not so fast my friend". I think those higher ranked recruits come with some huge egos. It seems Kirk and highly egotistical "me first" players don't mesh well. The more of those types of players you get, the more managing egos becomes as (or even more) important than teaching them the game.

Kirk is a teacher, mentor, coach. Dealing with prima donnas is not his strong suit. Give him a roster of blue collar lunch bucket guys and he really shines though.

This. I think KF has his niche at Iowa. Don't see him a Michigan.......

Yeah. Interesting that a coach gets "crap" for being an 8-4 guy.

Yes, management is a shortcoming but offensive schemes is as much, if not more, limiting. If you put Rolls Royce parts together incorrectly, you will have just as much of a clunker as you would have with Ford parts put together incorrectly.

I am still surprised Michigan gave Harbaugh a new contract. If he has another bad season the alumni will be calling for his head.

Grown men don't say giggle.
Correct. And when the topic is those losers in Nebraska, they laugh like hell.
