Looks like we're graduating some seniors that, while good, never achieved much individually. Do we have anyone waiting in the wings at 41, 57, 65, 74? What about HWT?

Feels empty dropping all 4 title shots today. Curious if we have any exciting wrestlers waiting to get a shot?

125: gilman (1 year more experience) - improvement
133: Clark (1 year more experience) - improvement
141: gross or carton - most likely a step backwards
149: grothus - step down from sorenson, but could be a contender if healthy.
157: sorenson (1 year more experience) - huge improvement over kelly
165: paddock - couldn't be worse, could he?
174: Meyer - step back, but hopefully not much???
184; brooks (1 year more experienced) - improvement
197: burak (1 year more experienced) - improvement
285: stoll - huge, huge, huge step back (could end up being a good HWT, but how can we expect to replace someone who should have been a 4x AA if not for an injury

As I see it, we could come close to being as good as this year, but our bigger issue is PSU. They're going to be heavy favorites with all the studs they are RS'ing. We need to win it all this year.

74 clears out next year. Meyer will be top 5 by the end of the year.

Good at 125 with Gillman
Good at 133 with Clark

Seth gross should take this spot. He will be fine and should at least be as good as good as Dziewa to start.

I look for Grothus to take this spot

Good at 157 with Sorenson

Paddock should take this spot. Can't be any worse than Moore. If he has a desire to compete than it will be a step up.

Should be good with Myers but there will be growing pains.

Good at 184 with Brooks

Good at 197 with Burak.

Step back (at least for first year) with Stoll but I think he'll develop into a great Heavy down the road.

We are (likely) putting Grothus in the lineup along with Meyer. Both are good enough to content for AA honors THIS year. Throw in a promising young HWT and we're hardly hurting.

Kemerer is a stud coming in who could contend for a spot at 141 if Brands puts him on the mat.

Ohio State has some very good freshman this year. They will be tough next year also.

Here is how Iowa stacks up....

125 Toss Up
133 Toss Up...slight edge Clark
141 No Idea
149 Toss Up with healthy HS regardless who we have here imo
157 Toss Up with BS here. Not sure how BG would transition
165 OHST big fav
174 Toss Up
184 Iowa fav
197 Toss Up...slight edge Snyder
HWT Toss Up...maybe slight edge OHST with Haines?

Should be a lot of close matches that could go either way
tOSU recruited Ke-Shawn Hayes out of Missouri, the 3rd ranked prep at 138 lb (currently a high school senior). He's the probable replacement for Logie Bear.

And if Hunter Steiber is healthy, IMO he has a definite edge at 149.

I spent way too much time on this one weekend. Iowa has 5 Srs. 141, 157, 165, 174, 285.
Everyone else should be the same/better next year.

Leading candidates and wrestlestats rankings for next year.

141 Gross #33 / Carton #46
157 Grothus #3 at 149
165 Paddock #67 @ 174
174 Meyers #3
285 Stoll #54

174- Meyers is a stud who went 3-0 against the returning 1, 2, 5 guys. He lost to 2 174s this year, Cousins WI and teammate Evans. He lost to Miklus 184 and beat a 197lbr. He was 18-3. I would expect that he will match Evans' 3 seed or better it next year at B1Gs (as the big 4 all graduate).

157- This is Grothus's spot. Grothus has some big wins in his career and hopefully can bulk up. I saw he was ranked 3rd in wrestlestat's returning 149 lbers. Hopefully he can AA at 157.

PSU will be ranked #1 next year. Wrestlestats has them 1, Iowa #2 and tOsu #3.

Leading candidates and wrestlestats rankings for next year.

141 Gross #33 / Carton #46

165 Paddock #67 @ 174 or Cooper #47 @ 157
**174 Meyers #3
285 Stoll #54

I think Myers and Grothus can AA next year. Operating on the assumption that 8 AA is strong enough to win, that leaves the team needing one guy to come through at 141, 165 or 285 to be real competitive.

If there is a wrestler (Thomsen, Rhoads, Ryan, etc) who feels slighted or overlooked for next year. I am fine with motivating you to beat out one of the aforementioned wrestlers.

*157- This is Grothus's spot, I don't see moving Sorensen unless Brandon wants to move. Grothus has some big wins in his career and hopefully can bulk up.

Have you watched 149 this year? It's the biggest snooze fest next to HWT and IMO H. Steiber's career is over.

Iowa takes this weight against OSU or PSU comfortably next year, weather it's BS or Grothus at 149

If BS does what's best for him, better stay @ 149. Best to battle it out w little Tshirt and stay away from Imart. That kid is goooood. I'm betting I wasn't the only one to pick up on that.
