I love Kris & Tony but Missed Free Throws Killed Us

But for the love of God, practice your FTs and get this issue fixed.

Iowa wins this game if we make our FTs.

Free Throws, this game:
3-7 Tony
1-7 Kris
6-8 Keegan
.......................
10-22 Overall
===========

Don’t know about Kris, but it seems like Tony played most of the game. No doubt, tired legs.

I thought Tony played a fabulous game. He missed 4 free throws, but Kris missed 6. Neither had been in a game deciding situation at the line before. To solely toss Tony under the bus alone is BS. I wish it had gone differently, but they’ll grow from this.

No one's getting thrown under the bus.

Just pointing out that they are called FREE points for a reason. You simply have to make them.

In the postgame show, the main focus is on missed FTs.

The positives:

* The Illini had only 9 second chance points. In the first game, the Illini had 24 second chance points.

* 36-34: Iowa led in points in the paint

* MINUS 4 rebounding margin this game (42-38). In the first game, it was a MINUS 28 margin (52-24).

Opportunity lost, but Perkins and Kris were why we were in the game. Keegan also had an uncharacteristically inefficient shooting game...7/22....he normally shoots around 56%.....give Illini credit.

This can be a good learning game....don't let Nebraska or Indiana steal a cheap one.

Think I counted 2-9 starting with kris missing his 3, not sure what time that happened. Within last 2-3minutes i think? Tony 1-3, kris 0-3, keegan 1-3. Hot garbage. Another thing, why does Fran always feel the need to go for the win with a 3?

In the postgame radio show:

Fran was happy with the wide open 3 at the end

He said lots of good things happened in the game

He said it hurts when you miss free throws

He said that we have a lot of hoop left in this group.

He said Keegan should have been at the FT line a few more times (he got bumped and nothing called).

He said everyone's heads are up & nobody is down.

Great. Now they are airing Underwood being interviewed by the Illini radio folks, where they are congratulating him in his 5th year winning a B1G Championship.

Brad is pleased that they held Keegan to 32% (7-22) shooting for the game.

And while they are at it, how about practicing layups? Never seen a team miss so many!

If Tony makes 90% of his 7 attempts, he scores 3 more points in a 2 point loss.

You can't rabbit hunt in a box score like this. Different end game situations would have been played differently by the opposition over the last several possessions dependent entirely upon the situation.

Of course free throws in general cost us the game pretty directly, but I don't think you can place the blame squarely on one player, or given the history of those players, blame it on anything more than simply bad luck.

I think both Kris & Tony would say that have to make at least 5 of 7 FTs (71%).

But instead of making a combined 10-14 (71%), they only made 4-14 (29%). That 6 points lost at the FREE POINTS LINE cost us big time.

Perkins & Murray’s gave great effort tonight and a big reason we were in the game with a chance to win...they have nothing to hang their heads about...bad night at the line as a team....yes, but they also played their asses off & didn’t get any help from the obvious no calls from the refs....

Use this game for fuel to get a third chance at Illinois in Bigten Tourney.

you all do realize that everyone wants to make layups and free throws. The team was the best in the Big Ten coming in, 76%. They missed a lot of them tonight. It's not because they were trying any less or not concentrating. Sometimes it happens. Sucks when it does.

Layups combination bad luck and Illinois defense Coburn and Hawkins are good defenders at the rim. Iowa still missed some they should have made. One possession stands out where Perkins missed a close one, Kris Murray had a point blank two-hand tip and missed it too.

Worst thing a coach can do is yell and scream about missing free throws. It sucked, it happened, have to move on. Still dumbfounded Iowa had a clean look at a 3 to win the game after all that happened. Of course it doesn't go in, but thought team played very hard and well, outside of the foul shots.

Missing FTs happens. I have no probelm with it. Did it cost us the game? Who knows. I do have issue with not taking more advantage of Kofi. We got plenty of switches and had Kofi stranded on the perimeter - What did we often do? We stopped the ball movement, stared down Kofi for 2-3 seconds, and allowed him to get in good position to cut off a drive. If he's in good position, flip the ball back to the passer, have Kofi readjust his position, get the ball back and then immediately put your head down and drive! (With Kofi on his heels) Foul or layup each time.

We had won what, 8 out of 9 and go down to the wire and lose on a last second shot (great look by the way) and all hell breaks loose again, which I guess should be expected. Got an amazing game from Perkins, Keegan was a little off, Kris was still 5-10 from the field (obviously free throws) but we also had 2 starters who got us zero points. Yes, zero. 38 minutes between the 2 of them and didn't score. And somehow we almost won. I'm not worried about this team at all. Great ballgame in a very very hostile environment, make a few more free throws and we probably win. Our 3 best players in the game last night couldn't hit a free throw when it mattered. As Kenyon said it's pretty doubtful it happens again. Move on and let's get a 5-6 seed in the tournament and see what happens.

i just don't want to lose an NCAA Tournament game this way

and you knew the Iowa 3 to win the game would not go in.
You knew the 3 wouldn't go in??? A glass effing empty kinda person, huh? I was optimistic; try that approach sometime - makes life a lot more enjoyable.

You simply have never played a sport, it appears. They're frickin human beings; they're not robots. Humans have emotions, get nervous, etc. Maybe you're not human and can't understand this. Jesus! I'd like to see YOU on the FT line on national TV with an important game on the line and see how many you would make. I'd be willing to let you practice as much as you want before hand.

You call out Kris and Tony yet Iowa would have gotten blown out had it not been for those 2. Iowa was only in position to win that game because of the play of those 2.
