Cover zero on the 3rd and 2 play that Sorely takes to the house??? Horrible decision. Stay with the bend but don't break, would ya please. If they get 3 for the first down, so be it, but you can't do that.

They have everyone in man press coverage against a designed QB draw. Brents is on the wide out, Hooker on the 2 receiver, Stone on the slot, Moss on the lone receiver at the top, but then they bring Gervase up to the line and send him right for the RB and bring Colbert up and send him right for Sorely. The right guard pulls and kicks Colbert out (which can't happen, he got too deep and he HAS to beat that block), Hockaday doesn't read the pull right in front of him and goes the wrong way and the rest is history.
I don't remember ever seeing that call before, and I hope I don't see it again.
Edit; Oh we have seen it before. Against Iowa St. in 2017. Taylor falls down and they hit Butler for the easy TD right up the seam. Like I said, I hope we never see it again. Doesn't work for us.

The coaches watch film and learn from 'hindsight'. Kind of a douchey comment. Do you think I was 'attacking' him?
I don't like the call, I bet he doesn't either. I doubt we see it again from what we learned from 'hindsight'.
Let me add, "in that situation". Just a hunch.

Oh, you’re fully allowed to bitch. Just don’t expect everyone to listen quietly.
You consider my original post 'bitching'? You are a sensitive little fellow, aren't you. Maybe you should get out your coloring book instead of reading 'football talk'. You seemed overwhelmed, honey.

You bitched then. You’re crying now. For crissakes control yourself.

I have the feeling that if we were in the same room, we'd make each other laugh. I'll get you this book, if you don't have it already.

Who, including you expected McSorley to run with a bum knee? It is easy to do the would of and should of after the fact. However, the coaches only get one try to get it right.

*would have, should have

But you’re right - didn’t see that coming, hobbled as he was. Of all the people to hate on after that turd, Phil Parker certainly isn’t one of them.

My bigger issue on the play was A Nelson. WTH was he doing on the play? First, why was he on the right edge in that situation? More importantly, why was he not setting an edge instead of washing down inside with the trash? They had no one assigned to contain that play. Colbert was coming on the snap.

Not a pretty play. Not a pretty result. I don't care how "hurt" McSorely was. All he has done vs Iowa over his career is hurt us. Once he got thru the line of scrimmage, it was too easy. I don't know why Phil did not stick to a 4-2-5.

Here's video of how easy Iowa made it for McSorely:

Not every call works. PSU is good and it happens.

Kinnick.At.Night is right, hindsight is undefeated. When McSorley left the field it appeared that he could barely even walk. No one, including the announcers believed he would scamper for 55 yards. It was a good call, they just got beat by an extremely tough, and experienced senior QB who will be playing in the NFL.

It was the perfect call against that particular defense. It was a weird spot on the field for Iowa to go Cover 0. Usually Iowa does it down much closer to the goal line, where risk of a big play doesn't really matter. Put Hockaday in a nearly impossible situation. Trying to read what's going on with that zone read with no safety help behind him. Once he took one step toward the running back it was over.

One could second guess every play call. Parker's track record running a defense is very good. But no play-caller is perfect. Penn State got him on that one. Iowa got Penn State in the 2nd quarter on the 3rd and 1 play action pass that should have been an easy TD to Hockenson, but Stanley overthrew him. Penn State's d-coordinator got totally pantsed on that one overplaying the run, only difference is Iowa didn't take advantage. And that's the game.

It’s about 11 players executing every play. If one doesn’t and the opponent finds that error it results in a big play. The same thing could of happened if they were in base defense. You just hope your teams executes more and takes advantage of the other teams mistakes.

This is the exact reason I like teams that will see the defense and then look to the sideline for any adjustments. PSU saw how we were lined up and then executed a perfect play.

After looking back, we ran cover zero on a 4th down play and Hooker got beat for a first down. It was not a good call, as we don't play cover zero well, but we might have got away with it if Hockaday would have read his key and followed the pulling guard right to the hole. He didn't though.

The entire Coaching job at PSU was nearly as bad as Iowa's QB play, fixed the thread for You.
Well, that's not true. BF dialed up some great calls that we didn't execute. Our defense played pretty well except for a couple plays and our special team coach did a great job.
