I remember that clearly. I was only 10 but I understood exactly what that game meant to the program. Great start to the day with Grapple on the gridiron and then arguably the greatest day in Iowa football history.
Ah, no. Not the greatest day in Iowa FB.I remember that clearly. I was only 10 but I understood exactly what that game meant to the program. Great start to the day with Grapple on the gridiron and then arguably the greatest day in Iowa football history.
Sorry meant KinnickAh, no. Not the greatest day in Iowa FB.
What would you qualify as the most important day in Kinnick then?Nor Kinnick.
Nor Kinnick.
‘85 Michigan game. Please elaborate with your pick for greatest
But what did that do for Hawkeye history? Sure it’s probably the greatest game ever at Kinnick, but the most important day ever? In that case 2008 PSU and 2016 Michigan could be up for debate in this conversation. 2015 Minnesota was the first 10-0 start ever. It was the most important day in kinnick ever as far as I’m concerned.‘85 Michigan game.
No, not in my opinion and it’s not remotely close. Great season though. But what did that do for Hawkeye history? Sure it’s probably the greatest game ever at Kinnick, but the most important day ever? With all due respect you did just say you're 14-15.....this game was one of the things that helped establish modern Iowa fball tradition. Michigan was a super power and ranked 2. WE WERE RANKED 1. And won on last second FG. Been tons of great games but nothing really compares to how big that was.But what did that do for Hawkeye history? First of all, you're switching midstream from "greatest" to "most important."But what did that do for Hawkeye history? That was game was so infuriatingly fun. Leidner was a terrible QB but he somehow channeled his inner Tebow whenever he played Iowa.
It was like the one game Leidner actually lived up to Todd McShay's 1st round mock draft grade after the season. Funny thing next year Leidner couldn't hit the broad side of the barn in Iowa's 14-7 win.
Side not one thing about that Minny game and the score before the chant the guy in front of me was upset after Daniels TD. I couldn't understand why until he told us how he should've stopped and kneeled at the 1 because it would've ended the game and they still had a slim chance. Which after scoring was true until we got the onside. But in Daniels defense I don't think breaking a 60yd score was in his mind he was just thinking about getting a 1st down.
THIS is the most important day in Kinnick (North) history:What would you qualify as the most important day in Kinnick then?
You have to allow some room for fans when they talk about the greatest Iowa team or game ever. It is almost always, like 99.9% of the time, a game they watched in the stadium or on TV in their lifetime. It's a natural emotion, and there's nothing wrong with that. Someday they will be telling their grandchildren about the 2015 Minnesota game.
It is worth noting that Iowa fielded some great football teams with great players before the Hayden Fry era. Evashevski's teams, Howard Jones's teams. Not to mention the Ironmen.
Best of all time? Iowa football goes back to 1889.
How about the BIG championship game after to the Beathard to Smith bomb? The Hawks fans in Indy rocked that stadium with the I-O-W-A chant. Oh shoot, that one didn't end well either....I cringe when I hear that chant.
One reason is the MN game and watching the Goofers just slice through the Iowa D when Iowa should have shut them down.
I was at the Iowa - OSU B1G baseball championship game In Omaha when we started the IOWA chant when Iowa took the lead and sure enough OSU came back and won the game.
