Ron Aiken was a great assistant coach then went on to the NFL but is now with Oregon, really wish Kirk Ferentz found a way to get him back to Iowa and dont care who we let go as he was part of the brains of the operation for the defense with the great teams here in the early 2000's!

Spoke to Ron a couple weeks ago. Ron has been at Oregon almost 3 years now and really enjoys the NW. He has no ties to Iowa and Oregon DL Coach is a much better position than Iowa DL Coach. He is making $500k as a DL coach!!!! That is $100k more than any other assistant coach, including both coordinators. Ron is 59 years old so it's not like he's looking to move up through the ranks. He has a pretty darn good gig after experiencing a good gig at Iowa and a good gig in the NFL for 6 seasons.
Iowa's assistants, especially coordinators are paid 50-60% of what the top schools are paying these days. I guess you get what you pay for.
One of reasons why Bielema left for Arkansas. Tough to keep coaches for leaving for work there gigs. So for the dream of ever getting him back here Iowa better be willing to pony up more cash for the assistants.
