Or really close. Dripp26 might be able to pull the Hawks to the championship with his BS. I doubt it. Go Hawks!!!

With Brooks out that would seem to do it. I expected good points from him, but things just didn't go his way. Look for big things next year; I really like the way he wrestles.

He wrestled OK against Dean, but still he focuses WAY too much on the head, and not near enough on attacking people.

I stated before the tournament started, if Early Season Sammy shows up, he'll make the podium. If Late Season Sammy shows up, he won't. Late Season Sammy showed up (yes, he lost to some good guys, guys he is capable of beating, and more than once).

He took more shots in one week than he has in the last month early in the season. I don't recall one single inside trip attempt, which he did with regularity early in the year, and if he didn't hit that, he'd slide off and get to a leg. There was none of that going on for him in the last month or so. In short, either he got worse or he got scouted and didn't adapt or force his will upon people. Too bad, I love the spirit, but he was technically flawed coming into the year, and still has a ways to go.

He's got heart, guts and energy. Still needs some work on the feet and technique refinement when he gets in there. He's close.

You would think the offense would become more varied as the year wore on. His arsenal shrunk. Sorensen was another guy whose offense seemed to become more limited as the year progressed. Same for Evans and Telford who seemed to use fewer fewer shots and techniques as their careers wore on. When those moves were countered, they were effectively shut down.

You guys are f'n fags. It's pathetic how you bitch about things you could even dream of accomplishing. I feel sorry for your mothers.

Hi Mike! Try not to give up on the Hawks again before the end of this thread.

Credit to mike, he consistently gives up on all Iowa teams equally.

I didn't read anything from sloe or 86 that wasn't true. You get your beer muscles before you post tough guy?

Your life must really suck Mike.

I think most of Iowa's wrestlers will end up wrestling close to their seeds (with the exception of Jeva - and Jeva actually had a tough first round match, wrestled his next match well, destroyed Dardanes and didn't wrestle badly against Mayes).

Dropping into the consi brackets were very unkind to Brooks and Evans facing very tough opponents earlier than they should.

So I wouldn't get all too down on them. OSU stepped up and Missou let a couple of their wrestlers waltz into the finals - otherwise it is still a competition.

I assume you say the same thing to Tom Brands?

I've noticed many a time when I critiqued (I guess you call it bitching) a guys "style", what issues they may be having (in my opinion) from top, bottom, neutral, etc. (ya know, the sport itself), then I click on an article on Hawk Central or somewhere else, and damn near word for word there's our Head Coach, 3 Time NCAA Champion, Olympic Champion, Tom Brands saying the exact same thing. Good company, I'll take it. D.B.

Thank You. I didn't think what I was saying about Sammy was "bitching" in any way. It's an observation that I believe to be true. I love what he brings to the table (I think I've stated that several hundred times - I guess that doesn't count). His technique was really raw when he sat behind Lofthouse, you could tell he has plenty of moxie and other good attributes, but he needed to shore up his takedown offense to be an All-American (in my opinion). Early in the year he was coming at people from everywhere. He was getting to the legs, he was getting to his underhooks and using it to his advantage, that's what he does and he's hard to beat when he's doing that, but lately it's been largely straight ahead, and that doesn't work unless you're Jordan Burroughs.

He hasn't wrestled late in the season like he was early in the season (and I don't mean at the Luther Open). I believe that to be true, and I think obviously so. If that's "bitching", then so be it.

(I don't know how good ol' Gobblin got away with it, but every time I try to make a post with is garbage in it, it won't let me so I have to delete it).

You're a keyboard hero Sloe. Honestly never had much of the problem with you, but get off your f'n high horse. This team is not above constructive criticism, but if you don't think the meltdowns this board has are flat out embarrassing you're a lost cause.

Recruits, young guys in the team, and parents read this board. I talked about how pathetic this place is with quite a few heavy hitters within the program last night. If I told you who they were you'd be mortified.

Parity is here in our sport and Dan Gable is gone... I suggest you people get used to it, or don't and go on about your miserable lives.

Great post Gobblin. This board is a complete embarrassment every time something doesn't go the Hawks way. Making intelligent post and welcoming discussion is fine, but that isn't what is happening

Now this I find deplorable. Only losers settle for "parity". If Brands ever gets comfortable with parity, I will want him to move on. I do not believe he is content with parity and getting use to it.

Spoken like a true Hypocrite.

Speaking of high horse, I assure you I know as many "heavy hitters" as
you do and probably more, so you can take that comment and stick it.

And you're what exactly? Every comment you make is rainbows and puppies and the gospel truth? I don't give a rat's ass who reads this board. You take the good with the bad and deal with it best you can. That's called life. If people are dumb enough to believe everything they read on any message board on the planet, from people they don't know, they get what they deserve. Filter it and do the best you can.

You know there was a time when there was no Internet, and people just said the same things sitting at the game, or a bar, or at work (or in your case with Presidents and Congressmen). I guess if it's in writing it makes it different? LOL!

I've played sports and watched sports my whole life and I've been damn good at many of them as well. None of that matters though, because you don't have to fill out a form with your credentials to post on this or any other forum. We have tons of people on here who never donned a singlet at any age, are they not allowed? Sounds like to you they aren't allowed to have an opinion or an observation. So go ahead and be a fan, just don't talk about it unless Gobblin agrees with it. Sound about right?

And what the hell does a "board meltdown" have to do with me personally and any observation I may have? Go ahead and be pissed at random strangers on the internet, but leave me out of it unless you can come up with better shit that get's your panties in a bunch.

Or keep it coming, makes no difference to me.

Well, when I post it on Saturday night and it appears in an article on a Sunday, I'd say it's not "regurgitated". Would you?

This isn't rocket science people. If you understand the sport, any sport, you can observe and make up your own mind, assuming you have one that functions properly.

It really isn't that difficult. For some apparently it is.

And if you payed as much attention as you seem to think you do, you may have noticed I've stated oh................... a couple of hundred times, that Iowa Wrestling Fans are spoiled, me included (I''m sure you're not because you're above such nonsense). I'm also a realist whether you agree with it or not and know damn well we aren't winning the National Title every year. I'm pretty sure Gable didn't. Maybe I should check with you first before deciding that though.

One thing I do "expect" is for Iowa Wrestling to be serious contenders for Team National Titles when Saturday Night rolls around. We have the resources like no other for the sport. Money, Coaches, Fans, Tradition, Support from every conceivable angle that should put you in that position.

I don't expect to win the National Title every year, never have, never will, but I do expect to win a few every decade, so we'll see if that plays out or not.

And apparently "other" people "expect" the same thing, maybe you can ask one of the greatest Hawkeye's ever in Jimmy Zalesky tonight over tea if he agrees with me about that or not.....................................

its a wonder we can get any good recruits with the way some of you bad mouth our guys when things don't go the way you think the should.. I know for sure every kid in the room knows every negative thing that is posted about them from their supposed supporters.

And please, keep on thinking you know what you are talking about. Your so called inside information has routinely been verified as blind speculation. If you are an insider, where is the inside information. You provide none.

But in all reality who cares who has inside information. If it makes someone feel better go get it. This year has been a solid year for IOWA. We are going to get 2nd in the country and some of you act like the sky is falling.

Being a fan of Iowa is almost embarrassing sometime the way some people talk on this board. There is a huge difference between hard critique and just plain attacking a college wrestler. Most of you give up on this team every year. It's quite sad

Negative fans on this board will cost us and has cost us so many ways. Yes we are a little bit disappointed in how the tournament has gone out but I for one am still a VERY PROUD HAWK!! The negativity on this board has cost us some recruits and might cost us a BIG one next year!!! If my son is ever good enough to be a Hawkeye wrestler I would really have issues with some of the stuff on this board and it would definately effect his decision also.

Gobblin has more ties to this team and former teams than anybody on this board period!!! You better take was he says as the truth!!

I guess that's one way to spin it. Keeping nothing of note to yourself and then not sharing it. Classic gobblin, " I know so much and have so many inside connections." What are they gobblin? Gobblin replies, "I can't tell you."

Thanks for the update, uncle Rico.. I understand and have plenty of experience in the sport.

Maybe you should call Brands directly after each match so he doesn't miss out on insight from a guy with obviously incredible credentials.

And just who has decided to go somewhere else?

Gobblin may or may not have more ties than anyone else; however, that doesn't authorize him to have the only worthy opinion. I hope Iowa and Iowa fans NEVER get used to "parity".

We may mot like it but parity has hit wrestling just as it has for other college sports. At least we are not UCLA basketball and fallen out of even contending on a consistent basis.

It's not about becoming complacent. It's about not being completely delusional, which half of our fans appear to be. If we throw a complete hissy fit every time we don't win, there are going to be a lot of hissy fits over the next 20 years.

Gobblin and pantherfan87 have the list, but they are keeping it to themselves. Too ashamed and scared to share "their secret list" because one of the kids on "their secret list" is still on a current team. They are withholding sharing "their secret list" because they are still holding out hopes the kid will transfer to Iowa for his senior season.

If the Hawks get this kid to transfer it will change everything!!! This is what they've been told by a the kid at the grocery store who knows the roommate of one of the guys who mow's Tom Brands yard. The comments on this message board is the only thing preventing the kid from transferring.

But again, it's all very confidential, sensitive stuff.

Alex Dieringer and Jason Tsirtsis are two pretty substantial ones who's fathers didn't want to subject their sons to the venom that may be spewed at them by our unrealistic, moronic, fickle fanbase.

I know for a fact that is not accurate and if your half as connected as you say, you know it too.
Nothing to do with this board.

Nothing against Gooblin or other but this "I have knowledge you don't and I am not going to share" crap is old.

This is not the CIA we are talking about. It is college wrestling and getting "inside" access to any program is not hard.
These guys answer their phones and email. Practice is open. If you are a coach on almost any level you see all these guys grow up through the state, regional and national tournaments. People are willing to talk and actually answer questions.
In truth, there are very few secrets out there. Yes, there are some inside the team stuff they don't talk about but it is not much and pretty easy to figure out if you follow it. The best gauge I have to if people really have access is they don't talk about it much and don't share that they have something to share and then say they cant. If you cant say anything, then don't say anything.

Gooblin has been a good source for stuff but does play the game too often and it is frustrating. All in all, seems to be a good guy. Personally, I don't get invited to Brands Sunday dinner or get calls from him asking for advice. But I know the guy a while. He answers his phone and tells stuff. If it is team only stuff he comes out and says so. Even Gable answers the phone. Some guys on the team talk a little too much and some of the parents (particularly fathers) talk to much too. But nothing gets out that the staff and team don't want out. Made easier by the fact there just are not any secrets to keep.

Bottom line, this board used to have guys go to practice and share what they saw. It was great. Now is has become a pissing contest over who has brands ear or knows a family or my favorite.."close to the program". Just be fans and share the sport and great team with each other and it will be fun. Get over the Gable era expectations because they are not possible anymore and even Gable knows it. It is a great goal but not likely to happen. Brands is doing a great job. Maybe he needs to make some changes but would that be different if they won?
