I need to see a review of the said bad calls before I can pass judgement
In the 2023 Minnesota Iowa game the officials made the right call as the rule is written.

Where is the rule written that the booth can call penalties?
The 2023 MN game crowd was ugly, even before that call. Ugliness increasing in the stands has been a general trend the last few years, enough so that we didn’t renew season tix for this year.

The referee did make the correct call as written. Then the fuggin replay official invented a reason to overturn the call on a replay where the reason they were replaying the video had absolutely nothing to do with the call they eventually made. Why a call like that can be even left up to the replay official is beyond me. If it wasn't distracting enough for the official on the field to call it that way then it wasn't a foul. Period.

Ok. Well, I will never accept it as correct so I guess there are some things that you can't just ever "move on" from.

It was a bullshit call and a severe misinterpretation of a natural act by the official who had the worst seat in house…….100 yds or so away from the play. As the T-shirt says…”It was NOT a Fair Catch”
It was a shitty call, however.
