I was hoping

Always prefer a win to a loss, but the postgame guys brought up a decent point (and that pains me to say because Mike Hall is annoying as hell). It could prove valuable for the Hawks later in the year (BTT, NCAAs) to get some experience in a game situation where Garza is in foul trouble, and they are unable to lean on him

This was a game that nobody expected the Hawks to win anyways, and thought the Hawks handled themselves very well in a tough, tough environment

Yep Sunday against Illinois is huge.....and I hate losing no matter when, but I also come away from this game understanding we were much less than stellar and we almost beat one of the best teams in the B10 on their home floor..

This Iowa team is good....but this conference is really really tough. So, we can't let this one loss turn into two, particularly against an Illinois team that is right there with the top teams of the conference.

Go Hawks! Beat the Illini!

I knew it wasn't going to be our night when we missed 4 layups in the first half (I think first half).

I think they are currently THE top team in the BIG.

A loss was expected; no heartburn over it.
They gave a nice showing on the first half and kept it close despite Garza's absence for most of it.
Pemsl solidly contributed. Joe T had some nice moments.
For it being a loss, I didn't think it was all that bad a performance against a legit top 15-20 team on their home floor.

that this would have been one of those surprise wins indicative of a magical season, sort of like when we waxed Michigan State at Breslin a couple years ago. Not disappointed that Iowa lost, it just showed this team isn't bullet proof.

That's a good Maryland team.

If the refs call fouls on Garza like those first two last night, our season is effectively over. They could call those fouls on practically every player on each team every trip down the court and all we would be seeing would be bench players for the remainder of the game. I don't usually complain about officiating (After all, I'm not a Clown fan!), but those first two on Garza last night were game changers. Fans don't go to games to watch the stars sit on the bench. We might have lost the game anyway, (Maryland is loaded!) but having our big gun sit out almost half the game sure didn't help our odds.

Not surprised that the Hawks lost to Mary Land on their court, because that is probably one of the tougher games to win in the country this year. Breslin might be worse. I had hoped that we would see the best players from both teams fighting it out for most of the game. Unfortunately, I see the same pattern over and over and over... in the B1G. Visiting teams get fouls called that aren't called on the home team (at least not as many), and that effectively determines the outcome. Last night, was actually more evenly called than most B1G games I have seen, but some of the foul calls on Luka were ones that I have not been called on him most of the season...

This foul call was just inexcusable.

DJ carstenson really put the screws to us last night. It isn’t the first time.

I knew it wasn’t going to be our night on the very first possession when Smith went up for a dunk & lost the ball & it went in.

If that wasn’t a sign I don’t know what is.

The video is too poor to tell for sure, but it kind of looked like defender sort of hooked Garza's arm and pulled backwards as he fell, therebye looking like Garza pushed him back. Anyone have a better view?
