If anyone was still questioning the Murray twins schollies...

I don’t think many people would have had a problem with using a single scholarship on one of them. It was the early offer to both that raised eyebrows. But I have a lot of confidence on Fran’s evaluations at this point. He knows what he is doing.

Keegan has a nice game but let’s see how he does in the B1G.

has a nice jumper and knack for the ball though

I remember some 'BB guru Hawkeye' who said the same thing about
Nick Baer, when he first burst on the scene.

(He was from Cedar Rapids, not QC though) :)

LOL #goHawks

Keegan showed great 'nose for the ball', great timing. Nice looking shot. Really... looked like a 4 year starter today.

In 2-3 years, Keegan is going to be a Force to be reckoned with, for sure.
This year, he's going to really play an important role for this team to really achieve the
Goals it has in mind.

Keegan had a fantastic first game. My only hesitation to making him part of the regular rotation is that you can tell, from a physical standpoint, that he isn’t quite where he needs to be strength-wise to compete regularly in the Big Ten. He lost the ball several times and was struggling to finish through contact.

Not bagging on him - he had an awesome game and will have an awesome career, as will his brother. His tenacity on the boards and smooth shooting stroke alone are enough to get him some minutes this year. My guess is that Nunge is still the better play as far as extensive minutes go.

Also, I’m liking my prediction for Keegan to lead Hawkeye freshmen in stats even more now 😉

I said this in the other thread and will likely get ridiculed for this take, but his knack for the ball reminds me of Rodman. Also his size and ability/willingness to box out and put a body on people to get to the ball. Obviously Rodman is a HOF NBA rebounder and Keegan has only played one college game against a crap school, but he reminds of me him nonetheless.

I didn’t get to watch or hear the game, but I heard Garza postgame and he had nothing but praise for him, which was great to hear! The experience these young guys are going to have with this years team will definitely pay dividends down the road. The future looks bright!

If offering both is how they ended up at Iowa, so be it. It's way too early for me to determine if it was worth it or not, but I liked what I saw today.

Is he playing for Nunge though who isn’t available for a couple games at least?

To tell the truth I was very disappointed when we added the Murray boys. Thought we were past the reach on two star guys with no competing offers. I have completed my 180 turn. After watching the videos all summer it became apparent that I was way off on them. Once Big Cordell left and the Murray video was so impressive, and their game stats were impressive, I became convinced that at least one K would play in our regular rotation.

Today answered the last question about Keegan. He is going to be a regular contributor in the close games.

When will people start to understand and respect this staffs evaluation process & eye for talent?

Basabe had hardly any offers.
Clemmons was the 3rd best player on his HS team.
White had interest from bigger schools but received no P5 offers outside Iowa & his only other D1 visit was Duquesne.

They regularly find guys like the Murray twins & it’s about time we started trusting and appreciating the process.

Speaking for myself, I will readily concede the guys getting millions to evaluate talent no more than I. Thank God for that.

But we do have the nine players in the 14 and 15 classes, that ended up producing two worthwhile players. My fear was this class would be similar because of low recruiting profiles.

I don't really have those fears now. Collins needs to improve skills but that's very doable. His athleticism alone can make him a hell of a defender if we wants to do so. Keegan and Patrick showed they can play. Neither are finished products but they certainly showed the material to be very good players. Didn't see enough of Kris. Ahron looked like a Big Ten player. Ogs, man that kid clearly needs a transitional year to get in shape but he's a bull moose in there.

NCCU. Lets see if they belong when Iowa gets to the BIG. They don't need to score, just contribute. If they do that I will be happy.
.

Wait until the B1G?? We'll find out sooner than that! UNC in 12 days! Then UNI. Then Gonzaga.... We will know what we got before mid-December. Love it! It's going to be a fun winter

Sorry Cyclowns, no respect this year.

I assume you mean Perkins, not Collins?

I never understand how parenthesis are used when quoting somebody like that...

Having (Kris Murray) on the court with me was a dream come true

What is happening in this tweet?
I assume there is a missing ellipsis and he said "him" instead of "Kris Murray" because he is is brother, and it would be weird for him to refer to his brother as such, but the editor wanted to quote to be clear as to whom he was referring.

Keegan is smooth and played scared, like a freshman he is. One time he rebounded I thought he was going to jump out of the building. His footwork is not very good still and he needs to get stronger, but the upside is huge. Patrick plays with passion, like his brother. How do coach's sons have bad shooting technique? Patrick needs to work on his shooting. I was very impressed with Ulis and that kid will be great. Perkins will transfer out.
