If Brandon Hutton is really the player he claims to be, then Fran needs to turn him loose...

...on Jared Uthoff over the next month in practice. If JU wants to lead this team to its highest potential, then he needs to very quickly embrace the idea of scoring with someone draped all over him. Jared needs to determine that the refs are not going to call those fouls, and take it on himself to score the ball no matter what contact is created.

I know this is counter to the way that the young man has played for most of his career, but I believe that freedom of movement is going to be called sparingly over the stretch run. It would be really fun to see JU start scoring the ball at the rim with contact all around him. I believe he can do it, it involves a tweak in his mindset.

Go Jared!

This is Jared. I'm guessing he is by now used to scoring with some dude draped all over him.

This is Jarrod Uthoff.

FYI ;)

How de we know that he doesn't already do this. I do know these guys go very hard in practice.

I wish Uthoff and Woodbury would have a game they both just dominate inside. I know, I know Woodbury can't jump, but he can start scoring more in the paint any time now.

Never seen a 7 footer that doesn't draw double teams and still can't have a dominating game once in a while.

To me, Woody is asked to play a role on this team and that's what he's been doing ... very well, I might add. More points would help, of course, but his value lies in other areas of the game.

I am pretty sure this is already happening. Hutton has been working on both Jok & Utoff. You can tell because Peter has gotten used to shooting with a hand in his face this year. He has been lights out and hopefully he can keep it going.

You can tell that this team is being challenged in practice. Remember the days when we only had 7-8 scholly players (lick years). Those teams couldn't even scrimmage no wonder when game time came, they were completely lost.

Like the late Yogi Berra used to say, "The game is 90% mental. And the other half is physical."

I know some disagree, but I am in the camp of those who believe Iowa has looked mentally and physically tired the last several games. If you're physically tired, you have to have the mental toughness to play through it. It seems as if the high national ranking, trying to win that elusive Big Ten title, and the challenging conference schedule have gotten the better of the Hawkeyes recently.

With this week off, Iowa has the opportunity to rejuvenate itself physically. But my biggest concern, given the facts of Hawkeye history, is the mental side. Do these Hawkeyes have the mental toughness to sweep these last four games and guarantee themselves a rare Big Ten title? No, it won't be easy, but that's what would make it so great. It's there for the taking. I'd like to think Iowa will find a way to get it done. Write a new chapter of Hawkeye history. Change the course of events.

It all comes down to this: Iowa has four games left to win a Big Ten title and a lifetime to remember it.
