That's exactly what happened. The two guys to the center's right were off the ball. It's called a center eligible, and I don't think I've seen one in the last 30 years.he was the end man on line of scrimmage makes him eligible (TE) guys out side of him were off the ball making all three guys near ball eligible. I think I didn't watch it that close but that almost has to be the answer.
He was the end man on the line of scrimmage, but he also had to report as an eligible receiver prior to the play.
First of all - is this true? Someone posted that's not a college rule. You might be right I really have no idea
Second how does that work? Is the defense told he is reported as eligible? How are they not ready for it if that's the case?
I don't think he has to report if he has an eligible number which 97 is. I believe he is number 97
Yup, gotta report. Oops, never mind.He was the end man on the line of scrimmage, but he also had to report as an eligible receiver prior to the play.
Sorry I disagree.
ARTICLE 3. Eligibility to Touch Legal Forward Pass
He is number 97 and the last man on the line; he is eligible.
- Eligibility rules apply during a down when a legal forward pass is thrown.
- All Team B players are eligible to touch or catch a pass.
- When the ball is snapped, the following Team A players are eligible:
- Each lineman who is on the end of his scrimmage line and who is wearing a number other than 50 through 79.
Thanks - this is great.
So how does the process of reporting as eligible work?
And why wouldn't a team just prohibit all players from wearing those numbers?
99 numbers-85 scholarships-20 numbers ineligible.
Math?

walk-ons, dressing at home too (think 60 is the road limit, unlimited at home if my memory is good.
There's been duplicates I believe in home games.
No such thing as reporting in college....he has a eligible number on by rule.He was the end man on the line of scrimmage, but he also had to report as an eligible receiver prior to the play.
I was very surprised OSU didn’t call TO before that play. Also, do you think we let refs know about the potential play in pregame, so they didn’t accidentally blow an illegal procedure penalty or something? Who was in motion on that play? AJ?
You only have to report if your number is an ineligible number. His number is NOT an ineligible number so he did not have to report. He was the end man on the line of scrimmage, but he also had to report as an eligible receiver prior to the play.
OSU fan on the bus last night was saying that play would be Urban`s motivation against us next year. I say who cares, OSU usually names the score against us anyway, and it was a glorious playAgree. Shocked the Urb didn't call a time out when he saw the alignment that Iowa moved too. Great play by the Hawks, just wish Kluver kept his feet and scored.
If OSU now needs motivation to "beat" Iowa, I think Urban is done.OSU fan on the bus last night was saying that play would be Urban`s motivation against us next year. I say who cares, OSU usually names the score against us anyway, and it was a glorious play

It was a total offense back in the 50's and 60's. Have a book handed down from my father that has probably 200 different sets and plays you can run out of it. It is a total numbers offense. Back then it was all based on defense does this we do this after the snap. Still stunned that Urb didn't burn a timeout. Just shows the arrogance that he has. The whole 4* / 5* thing is garbage if you do not execute.... there are guys getting paid and players playing hard on the other sideline every game.Don’t they call that “the swinging gate”? I believe the center could have snapped that ball sideways as well....
how can you be an eligible receiver? Seriously, I’m confused here.
