If you was the coach?

Just talking offense would you coach this team to work the ball around to have our best two shooters take the majority of shots OR would you coach all the guys to take shots (when fairly open) even if your name is not Peter or Jarrod and taking your chances?
It just seems like besides we aren't moving quick, playing good defense and rebounding like we were earlier, that we rely too much on making offensive plays for our two studs or they try and make plays. Compared to earlier when no one was afraid to shoot or they all had the green light to shoot while more balance but shooting percentage might not had been as good!?

I'll re-post what I did in another thread in my "if I were coach for a day" attempt...

I really think one of the most effective offensive set changes the staff can make at this point is get Woody the ball often around the second hash mark (third if you count the block). He is fairly effective at hitting that short-to-mid range jumper; he gets into trouble when he gets the ball to low or tries to drive against/challenge equally big men around the rim. He has excellent court vision and passing skills to hit some back door cuts or kick it back out.

This could serve to free up Uthoff and Jok. Uthoff in particular is receiving intense defensive pressure with little room to operate.

I would have the team watch Patton. And I'd give weekly book reports on my half hour television show. Then I would quit suddenly but get rehired and take the same guys I could barely win twenty games with and go 30-5. Then I'd take it easy and golf a lot and take University paid, "recruiting" trips to Las Vegas. Eventually I'd say people shouldn't expect to win a Big Ten Championship.

That would get me not rehired/fired but then I'd get rehired when I change my tune and say, "I'm going to create whole new tradition!!!" And people will love my tough guy attitude. That is until one day in Cedar Falls I have such a confused team they don't even know what our offense is, and I can't explain it without my old coach Bobby to help me out. So I get so mad I refuse to let the team eat the pizzas that were already cooked for the ride home.

In fact that starts my whole new player and bus thing until all I ever seem to do is try to throw them under it. Then I figure out I'm on a hot seat so I blame the football program and quit. But of course I come back one more time and all I do is hide in my office for three years.

And finally, I'm not going to mess with the offense too much as if Jarrod were hitting his shots we'd be in great shape, IF the defense can get fixed. There's the real problem.

Hawk 4 sure has the right answer. Too many on this board get their thrills, apparently, going after our football and basketball coaches. They play the wrong guys (sometimes called favorites), call the wrong plays both on offense and defense, they poorly manage the clock, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum. Give it a rest.

If your open, you shoot. There's a bigger concern in defense, rebounding, bench play, and FT shooting, specifically front ends of 1 and 1's .

If you can't make 70% of your Free throws at this level, they should ship you to
SE Iowa JC until you can; They are call FREE throws for a reason. I'm okay with the ball being entered to the post more often, even to Uthoff and Uhl. Play some inside and kick it out.
Need some slashing and finishing, too

So, clock management in football isn't a legitimate complaint?;)

Coaches don't make better decisions than us every time, but they do make a better decision than us 95% of the time.

I'd make sure to take time out of my day to read the responses from people bitching I was coach for day in the world of hypotheticals. Really, if people take time out of their busy day to bitch and moan about people posing hypotheticals, well, they must have some brilliant advice to pass on. It's not like they could have just went to the next message, they had to post something on what they believe is a dumb subject.
