Illinois DB coach just resigned

Illinois is a mess.
There are just too many other football options for fans to get excited about Illini athletics.
And their stadium is a joke.

In a related story in the Champaign Gazette newspaper,
Coach Abraham said that watching his son play football
in his senior of high school in Florida was more important
than coaching at Illinois. He stated that staying at Illlinois
was like watching the Titanic sink, it was a fatal cause.

I didn't know Lovie quit. Kind of out of line calling him a douche bag though.

Lovie may not be a great football coach, but everyone I know lauds what a great & personable guy he is.

Agreed. But I don't understand why.

I believe Illinois is a very good school. They have a much better recruiting base than Iowa, and there is only 1 other P5 school in Illinois. Their stadium "could" be great, if they poured the kind of money into it that Iowa has into Kinnick. I don't get it.

Apart from the Champaign-Urbana area being a pretty blah place to live (I know, I lived there) .... the University there is academically excellent AND, as you rightly point out, the recruiting placement is pretty ideal. They have great proximity to the greater metro areas of Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis .... and they're reasonable drives to Michigan and Ohio ... both of which are states will a lot of talent.

Northwestern is usually going to be stuck being a little bit more of a niche school as it relates to recruiting ... which can both help them and hurt therm. On the other hand, South Bend is a stones-throw away from Chicago-proper ... so the city of Chicago is traditionally still been one of the hotbeds for Notre Dame.

NW has owned Ill’s ass for the last 25 years or so.
