Illinois game

Remember an Illinois Game during the Lickliter era and CHA was a sea of orange. Will be a tough matchup, but hopefully we have already laid our two turds of the year. Go Hawks.

Illinois is for real and will give the Hawks
all they can handle. Hopefully, Iowa can
start hitting some 3 pointers and take
some pressure off Garza.

Start hitting threes? You mean like the previous 4 games?

I hope this is a good thing and that people who bought the tickets aren't wearing orange.

wasn't there busload (s) of Illini fans who were behind the basket wearing black and then all at once they took those black shirts off, revealing their ORANGE CRUSH shirts? it was one of the many embarrassments of the Lick era.

Perceptions can change so quickly here. If Iowa loses against Maryland, then the Illinois game has a must win" feel to it if we expect to stay atop the Big Ten standings. That is not a situation I want to be in. Can't handle that type of anxiety lol. I looked at Maryland's recent games and they honestly haven't been all that impressive to me. I think Iowa is the better team and is playing like it right now. Playing on the road is the big issue here. If we get a win at Maryland then I will feel a lot more at ease when Illinois comes to town.

After they play Minn, Illinois plays 5 ranked teams in a row starting with Iowa. I hope that is when they come back to reality and fall to the middle of the pack in the standings.

My biggest worry with this game is that it’s the 3rd game in 7 days against a very quick and athletic team. Fatigue could be an issue by Sunday.
Fatigue? Never bought that excuse.

For a team playing 3 straight in the B10 tournament - maybe - but a 3rd game at the end of 7 days should not be a problem at all. Seriously, only middle-age men (or older) make this claim.

The Hawkeyes will have had 2 full days rest between games. - that is plenty. These are highly conditioned college athletes. 25 minutes of game action on Thursday is not going to be a factor on Sunday.

I'm sure there will be plenty of Illinois fans at that game. Doesn't worry me at all. Garza and the boys will turn them into the Cryin' Illini.

There will, indeed, be many Illini at Carver on Sunday.
They like supporting the Iowa Hawkeye Athletics Dept, apparently.
It will be a long ride back to the Mobile home park in Champaign, after that one.

Only the illini were embarrassed. Were they on the famous
Bus line from Illinois, with a bird as it's mascot ???

Highly conditioned yes, but to think that a 3 game week in the middle of a conference grind shouldn't have any affect tells me that you have never worked with athletes. I could be wrong.. but in my experience if they are leaving it all on the court fatigue is a nature of that beast. It's not like you can take two full days off in between. They have to get on the court and prepare for the next opponent. The coaches may be able to get creative and do more mental preparation with film but there is no substitute to getting out and executing against the scouts. It's going to be a tough week for these kids physically and we are going to see how tough they are mentally come Sunday.

With that being said I hope you are right and they come out fresh and kick some Illini tail.

Still not buying it. Yes, I competed in cross country and middle distance events through college. Unless a player is disregarding normal protocols, fatigue will not be a factor.

I'm pretty sure you don't want to include "the last game" where we couldn't hit the water if we threw it out the boat. 3 for 20 something at home from three is pretty bad, but that much worse because even Luka wasn't finishing inside. The 33% for the game (from everywhere) is by far the worst shooting of the season, even worse then the debacle in Lincoln. Lets hope this was an anomoly from the stink put off from the Badgers, and their grind it into the dust type of game they like to play...

Different games have different conditioning demands. Both Penn State and Iowa suffered after that sauna in Philadelphia. A highly contested overtime game can carry over too.

The first game of my senior (hs) season went to three overtime’s and because of foul trouble I hadn’t been out before the 3rd started. Coach asked us while looking directly at me and wondered if anyone needed a blow. Like a fool I said I could use a quick one. He told me he needed me to go and assured me we’d run enough in practice that I wouldn’t ‘t have a problem next time. Lesson learned. We lost and I was shot for a couple of days.

Iowa was 3 for 20 against the nut punchers. Hopefully they'll shoot better than that.

Got it, but Lute was making it sound like they hadn't been hitting threes before that either. Their last bad shooting game was Nebraska. They were good or better in the 4 games between NE and Wisky.

I remember it happening during the Alford era because his wife was compaining about it from the back of the press conference. She said it was embarrassing. She was right.

illanoy game is important, but hardly make or break for the season.

While I get that things could certainly go south, Iowa looks to be in good position to make the tourney as more than just one of the last at large entries.

A good showing tonight and Sunday with winning at least one of them would be a good outcome. But not devastating if they lose both.
