Yahoo reporting Illinois going to offer Tony Bennett $4.8 million a year.

Be a great move. It's is who Iowa should have targeted and hired years ago.

He would be a natural in the Big Ten.

Which job is better, Indiana or Illinois? Both have recruiting advantages. Indiana has to compete with Notre Dame, Purdue, and Butler for in-state recruits. Illinois competes against "handlers" and to a lesser extent Notre Dame. I'd say Indiana is the better job.

Bennett and Illinois is not a good marriage if they want the Chicago pipeline. Don't see many wanting to play his style. Don't think it fits well at Indiana either.

We certainly would not want the level of success that Wisconsin has had or the level of success that Tony Bennett has brought to both teams he has coached. I would rather not make it to the NCAA Tournament or not make it out of the Round of 32- did I mention the lack of success in the BTT. Personally, I would love to see Iowa land a coach like Tony Bennett.

He couldn't even beat Fran.

So a Sweet 16, Round of 32, Elite Eight, and a 5 seed this year is a toss up with a First Four, Round of 32, Round of 32, and an #1 seed in the NIT?

Don't care... do not want to watch that style of ball. Embarrassing.

And can you imagine the 'walk-it-up' Illini instead of a rebirth of the 'Flying Illini'????

I'll take Fran over Bennett all day, for playing style alone. I also think Iowa is about to start winning a lot.

Yep that's just me... basketball is supposed to be fun not put me to sleep.
I have never found success and winning to be boring- getting to cheer on my team deep into the NCAA Tournament can be quite exhilarating. But that is probably just me.

Well hey I was just trying to be nice, I thought it was a dumb question to begin with.

Winning is fun too but I need more than a slow, grinding style with no variation. You had better win with that or see Todd L. I think you can have some success but still play a fun style that fans and players both like. Fran's done fine here and it's not over yet.

Well, maybe because Va got a #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney twice just made it SEEM like they haven't done that well.

I'd be surprised if Bennett leaves Virginia. He's got everything he needs right there. Great recruiting area. Good conference. Good resources.

After Lickliter, I want no part of a slowed down game. Sorry.

I think many are basing it on the tipping point of how much money Illinois is purportedly willing to throw at him. 4.8 million per is going to weigh heavy on that scale.

It's not just annual total. The length of the guarantee and the provisions of the buyout may be even more important.
Throw together the right package, and he may just see champaign as the "$greener$" pasture.

I am sorry but trying to compare Lick's style with that of Tony Bennett is really weak. I would like to cheer on what is considered an elite team and the only way to get there is by winning games against top competition and getting hosed 74-41 against Tony "Lickliter" Bennett is embarrassing- especially when you consider that Iowa beat Virginia in the NIT back in 2013. Of course, since then Virginia has risen to the next level while Fran's "fun" style has gotten Iowa back to the NIT. I get it, most of you would rather have style over results.
