Illinois HS Player of the Year Decommits from Vandy, has Iowa interest

Say he has an offer from Iowa State, is there a link stating with interest to Iowa?

#goHawks.......
Why wouldn't any Very good HS football player have HIGH interest in Iowa, with the
College Football Coach of the Year at the helm of a terrific Coaching staff !?!

"I've been talking to the coaches at Illinois, Syracuse and also Iowa," Brodner said. "I have offers now from both Illinois and Syracuse and Iowa is very interested but they haven't offered me a scholarship yet. The coaches from all three colleges have been in my school this month and they also made in home visits. I haven't set up any official visit dates just yet but I'm hoping to get that done soon. I want to visit all three schools ."

He most likely won't get an offer unless Iowa strikes out on all OL guys they are after.

Would love to invest a scholarship in an athletic FB. Most underutilized position in Iowa football.

I'm guessing you're referring to carries and catches out of the fullback position as why you think they're under utilized. Otherwise, that's a bizarre comment given the impact Plewa and Cox have had and how we utilize them. They're 2 of the biggest losses we have after this season so it's hard to say we under utilize them as players.

Might have a few that transfer or hang it up..patience may be a virtue

Iowa typically wants a visit before they offer, right?

I agree, although it was very interesting to learn that they offered Kittle without so much as a visit to his school, official recruiting call, or official visit. Probably the exception to the rule, since he was a legacy guy.

Thanks for the links. He's good. Good speed, balance, vision, and (unusually, at his age), good patience to allow his blockers to set up.

We are in a good situation this year, having a full boat of good/great commitments, with good candidates knocking at our door, wanting in.

I counted 6 players on Iowa roster listed as fullbacks. While there might be some position changes, it seems like Iowa has been investing a significant percentage of schollys for fullbacks.

Did Kittle ever camp with iowa? I find it hard to believe they wouldn't have seen him at a camp first. Maybe a satellite?

Most of them, if not all, are walkons. Plewa and Cox were granted scholarships late in their careers. Kulick and Austin Kelly are listed as walkons. Akre is mentioned in newspaper articles as a walkon.

Even as walkons, that is a significant percentage of the roster for fullbacks.

Of course you knew he was referring to catches and carries. Nothing bizarre about his comment.

The Gatorade POY is based on criterion other than athleticism and is not necessarily the top recruit in the state.

Also the Chicago Tribune Player of the Year, CSN Prep Player of the Year, EdgyTim Illinois Player of the Year. But thanks for reminding us that a 5'11" white running back might not be the best NFL prospect in the state.
