Other important things to remember is that not only does the CB room have a pretty nice collection of talent ... albeit most of it on the young side ... but it will be complemented by an extremely experienced and talented group of safeties. Strong safety play can be huge when breaking in new CBs. The leadership and communication can help ensure that the CBs are more apt to know their assignments and are properly positioned. In '09, we broke in Prater as a new starting CB and our pool of back-up CBs was pretty weak ... with the exception of Hyde. All the same, the transition at CB was still pretty smooth. Similarly, when Hyde was the new starter in '10 ... there were a few bumps early ... but again, as a whole, that too was a pretty smooth transition.
Furthermore, as has been oft mentioned ... another good friend of the secondary is DL play. Many of us, myself included, are very bullish on what our DL brings to the table. I'm willing to bet that Iowa's QB disruption numbers continue to be excellent ... and here I'm referring to QB hurries, deflected balls, interceptions, and sacks. The production by the DL in '17 was excellent as it relates to QB disruption numbers ... and given the leadership in that group ... I expect those numbers to only continue to trend up!
So am I worried about Iowa's CBs? Heck no! Do I think that there may be some "bumps along the way" ... sure I do! That's the nature of the beast whenever you have new starters ... but I also anticipate that we'll see a lot of fine play from them too!
