Imagine if Iowa's D

hadn't wasted a season, last year, in which the team averaged 28 PPG. Think of how many more games they could have won with a better defense.

That Phil Parker guy sure is a bum.

I'm going to be upset about this for years
for having the courage to say what everyone's thinking but nobody's admitting :)

Say what you will ... but the Iowa defense still didn't uphold their standard last season. They had good games ... and were still pretty solid. But they also had their issues too.

Career full of fake stats and rankings due to crappy weak scheduling. Any talk of the Hawk D being great is all BS. This crappy D gets its ass kicked by any offense with a pulse. Think the D was garbage this year wait until this year! going to get real UGLY!

The Big Ten West was the greatest gift ever given to an institution.

Wisconsin and Iowa benefited greatly.

It’s over.

You’re stupid. 2021-2023 would have been even better if they weren’t on the field so much.

I will say the Mich State game was the most inexplicable for our defense. I know we had injuries, but we made that QB look like Mahomes.

Isn’t it kind of funny that we gave Brian Ferentz all this offensive portal help and barely gave Phil Parker any guys (before this offseason)?!? Brian was still awful and I can’t remember one portal guy that really has done anything on offense before Tim Lester and lo and behold, the one guy Phil got in Nick Jackson was a stud.

Give it up grandpa. This ain't 1975. Teams actually score a lot of points this century. Just because the offense wasn't BF last in nation bad doesn't mean it was very good and just because the defense wasn't top 5 doesn't mean it wasn't still very good. Last year the Iowa defense was 11th in the nation in scoring allowed and 20th in yards allowed. It was ranked as the 17th most efficient in the country. Hardly a bad year by any standard except for that of a befuddled Iowa fan.

The Iowa offense was 72nd in the nation in scoring and 119th in yardage. The passing game was 130th out of 134 and the overall offense was ranked as the 50th most efficient offense in the country. Hardly a banner year by any standard except for that of that same befuddled Iowa fan.

Any perceived shortcomings by our defense in that 3-year stretch was 100% due to our offense not just failing to pull their weight…but playing at such a poor level that they were actively hurting our defense.

PSU, OSU, Michigan, Tennessee…the defense absolutely did their job. But at a certain point, the hole was too big to dig out of, and they ran out of gas/motivation.

Killed us in the BTCGs against Michigan. That, and their blatant cheating.

Big ten west summary all teams combined
0 big ten championship games won
0 playoff wins
0 playoff appearances
We were being generous to the East teams. They're the poverty programs of the B10.
You are what your record says your are. Facts cannot be controversial. They are what they are.
And the facts are Iowa > the rest of the B10 > your version of Iowa.

Deal with it.

How many years before a* former west team makes the* playoff?
Not years......................months.

The D was no-doubt legit. Not a paper-tiger, as some have suggested.

And yes, at times hurt by the offense.

But I just can't say they did their job vs Tennessee. Both the no-huddle that they hadn't seen all season, and the athletic 6-6 QB that they had little tape on, gave the Iowa D fits. Iowa was just never able to get comfortable on D and get their teeth inro Tennessee. Iowa was getting gashed up the middle from the start. And even had a soft edge that Tennessee's RB's and even QB got around a few times. When do you ever see a soft edge to Iowa's D? They just weren't able to time the QB's stride. It was just a bad day.

Michigan '23 title game-the D was beyond impressive.

OSU-I get there were multiple turnovers and the offense did less than nothing . But OSU put up 54. I'm not going to go as far as to say the D did their job that day.

PSU-yes, was pretty much the definition of a defense being left on the field too much

To be fair (not that Michigan would), Iowa knew about the sign-stealing before the 2nd title game vs Michigan. So I'm sure they changed up the signals.

First title game vs Michigan... different story

The offense turned the ball over 6 times vs that Ohio State team and for sure 4 of those and I can’t remember but I want to say 5 of those 6 were inside our own 40. That defense played a hell of a game as both Urban Meyer and Reggie Bush were left speechless about how bad that offense played and how the defense kept running out to put fires out.

Maybe they played a little better than I remember. Probably tough for my memory to get past the 54 points

Feth, All, McNamara, Large, Hill.

Anderson could still overcome the injuries.

Feel like I'm missing somebody...

Well, we had Deac then in the second one and a porous pass blocking. They knew to pressure Deac and make it even worse. Our defense was stellar in that game.

Not sure if you're still alluding to the sign stealing. But everyone knew how to pressure Deac. Michigan was just better at it
