Unsure it all for the better, but at least the University of Iowa is in position to knock the Big Ten out of the College Football Playoff on Saturday. What a season of College Football 2021 has been for the Hawkeyes, Wolverines and plenty of programs around the land!

Inside College Football also showed concern with the timing this week, but with 130 FBS programs, and early signing day approaching, what should happen in future?

So, can Iowa pull out the upset again, like 2016?

Michigan has advantaged further in 2021, and is one game from the College Football Playoff semi-finals.

Iowa was a +21 underdog, coming off a 41-14 loss at #20 Penn State. Michigan was #2 heading into that game in 2016.

"We know the Hawkeyes can keep things interesting with their defense, but can Kirk Ferentz’s team keep up on the scoreboard? Probably not, making the Wolverines and the under good plays this week." - The Athletic

Well, in Indianapolis, #13 Iowa isn't quite the underdog, it was at Kinnick in 2016, where walk-on freshman PK Caleb Shudak watched true freshman walk-on Keith Duncan hit the winning field goal, for the Hawkeyes to walk off with a win.

In 2015, we witnessed basically the reverse from Michigan State, with The B1G Drive of the year.

#13 Iowa vs. #2 Michigan
  • Both teams last win in Big Ten was 2004
  • Jim Harbaugh is 1-1 against Iowa as a head coach, 14-13 L (2016), then 10-3 W (2019)
  • Was he 1-2 as a starting QB for the Wolverines under Bo?
  • Kirk Ferentz as a first year OL coach in 1981 won a 9-7 game in Ann Arbor

No one likely expects a 1981 or 2016 score to be enough. In 2002, Iowa won 34-9, but Iowa lacks the offensive line it did that season.

Michigan has the most complete team we have faced all season. Offense, defense and special teams are all good to very good.

Michigan State had a bye week ahead of hosting Michigan. The Spartans won 37-33. Fumbles have been the issue for the Wolverines, as compared to interceptions by 12 QB Cade McNamara (6-1, 205 rFR) who is #7 in B1G passing ahead of B1G West threesome Tanner Morgan (Minnesota), Graham Mertz (Wisconsin) and Iowa's own Spencer Petras at 8-9-10 in Big Ten games.

However, the Wolverines are outstanding at RB, going 3 deep. The Hawkeyes have a huge test in Indianapolis.

Win, and Iowa will have their first outright Big Ten Championship in 23 years under Kirk Ferentz. Resilience can only get you so far. Iowa is going to WAR on Saturday. On Iowa!

Let's hope!
