The American Heart Association, the leading voluntary health organization focused on heart and brain health for all, is inviting the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Corridor back to its premier event to boost physical and mental health through healthy habits while supporting the lifesaving mission.

This Saturday, area Heart Walk participants and teams are invited to Kinnick Stadium to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity. This year’s theme, Heart Walk Here, invites participants to walk on the event path or to create a path of their own. From parks and parkways to tucked away trails, participants are invited to Heart Walk at any location that inspires their heart health. Heart Walk Here is led by Ian Law, M.D., Director, Division of Pediatric Cardiology with the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic, and Nikki Ferentz, Enterprise Account Executive with Sense Talent Labs.

“These past few years have shown us that no challenge is too great when we come together as a team,” Law said. “I am so proud to be part of the AHA Heart Walk, an event that reminds us all about the importance of staying active and healthy while promoting an organization that strives to advance clinical care, lifesaving research and education for patients and families affected by heart disease.”

The 2022 Corridor Heart Walk event is the first time that the annual Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Heart Walk events will be celebrated together. “Combining two strong events into one celebration enables us to truly celebrate the work of the American Heart Association across all of our communities in a meaningful way,” Ferentz said. “Plus, celebrating in iconic Kinnick Stadium will make this inaugural event even more special.”

To register, visit www.heart.org/CorridorHeartWalk. From there, participants can stay up to date by downloading the Heart Walk mobile app and encourage friends and family to join in via email or on social media.

The Corridor Heart Walk is sponsored by GreenState Credit Union, Neumann Monson, University of Iowa Health Care, University of Iowa Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital, Hodge Construction, Skogman Realty, Hills Bank, Veridian, Scheels and S.L.A.M. Collaborative.

The Corridor Heart Walk is the signature event of the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge program, which is designed to help companies positively impact employees’ overall health and well-being. The program is anchored in a series of customizable workplace events that inspires employees to be more engaged, reconnect with colleagues, get in their physical activity, support a great cause and have a lot of fun doing it.

The funds raised from the Corridor Heart Walk go toward research, advocacy, CPR training and to promote better health in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality. During the past five years, the American Heart Association has funded more than $11.5 million dollars on research projects in Iowa, including 63 studies at the University of Iowa.
