He replaced rickie scott, who was a convicted health care industry robber baron. That state is a bit “different”. It is a landing zone for weirdness... the locals from Old Florida were long ago marginalized by carpetbaggers.

Scott won twice for governor and once for senator by less than 1%. DeSantis was close to the same. Florida is razor thin and the GOP has been on the right side of that lately. They're damn lucky there isn't a sente election this year.
What would have been indefensible is electing someone who was already the subject of a criminal investigation, and who was living a lie and could have been subjected to blackmail for it. I think his wife might be inclined to agree.
