Four games in and four injuries thus far. The most serious is Dale Jones' wrist fracture. I feel terrible for the kid. Our younger basketball player broke his wrist and missed the entire season. One of Pemsl's front-court teammates last year broke his wrist and two months later, he still wasn't back to strength. In nine weeks Dale will have to work on his shooting and passing after the long layoff to play a major role. He can still keep his body and legs in shape, which does help. Also, his knee may be even better with the additional rest. Ryan Kriener is still gimpy on his ankle and that makes him look slower than he really is. Same with Pemsl's groin injury. Cordell needs all the quickness he can find, and when he can't stretch his leg to run, he looks more awkward. Peter Jok should be okay with the knee to knee collision, although in a guy with previous knee surgery it was smart for Fran to sit him most of the game. The week layoff before Virginia should help everybody heal. I hope that Dale makes it back for most of the Big Ten season and post-season. There may be additional players who get hurt and we need every able body. We fans often assume everybody who plays is healthy, but a lot of players play hurt. D1 basketball has become a contact sport.
