Injury updates from Iowa City:

· Jonathan Parker back to full speed, gradual progression (alert the FAA, jet sweeps coming soon!)

· Falconer (WR) is injured as well, so won’t see him pickup for MeerKat.

· DMX (Mitchell) is back practicing!

· DT Slater and TE Wisnewski both back practicing following camp injuries

It would be great if Wiz, DMX and Parker play and are at full speed. The offense badly needs an infusion of receiver options that Kirk trusts.

We all know Kirk tends to favor upper classmen. I don't see him trusting kids unless he has zero choice.

I don't know if that's favoritism as much as it's rewarding kids who have worked and learned the playbook. If an under classmen is clearly more talented and can help the team win, they play.

Who are the kids that should be playing who aren't? Jerminic Smith is a sophomore and starting. Scheel is a sophomore who will start this week. Devonte Young is a true freshman who will likely play now. Falconer is a sophomore who has been injured.

The best players play. The staff has shown if the guy can do it in practice, he will get on the field. Anthony Nelson is a redshirt freshman. James Daniels is a sophomore. Stanley is the backup QB as a true freshman.

This claim can be easily debunked with dozens of examples.
Matt VandeBerg himself is a prime example - he played ahead of upperclassmen as a true freshman.

But, but, that's impossible. Everyone knows that Kirk is willing to leave superior talent on the bench in favor of upper-classman because he can't coach and will forever languish in the depths of shameful coaching with a big smile on his face.
