Interest in Fens seems a little surprising, given the number of bigs, Josh O, Mulvey, and the commitment by Freeman for 2023. I never hear anything about Josh O, except he is getting in better shape. That is great, but does the ongoing recruitment of big men reflect a disappointment in his basketball skills, which we never hear about. He obviously is big and strong, but I haven't seen anything else in his limited minutes. Anyone know more?

My two cents worth of insight suggests it's merely a way of keeping a local kid, with size and potential, interested in Iowa should the opportunity arise. It's partly marketing, partly legitimate recruiting.

This is a big IF, but IF both Rebraca and Keegan go pro, that leaves the team with Mulvey and Ogundele as the only post players for 2022-23, should they be unable to land anyone else of significance. Freeman is in the 2023-24 class, so he'd be a year away.

Getting someone like Fens (again, I'm not saying it's a done deal by any means) would potentially be a decent fallback option as a backup in the post.

I like free ice cream cones & big body walk ons who dreamt of playing for Iowa.

If Fens continues to develop I could see him as a possible preferred walk-on situation. He would have to start his career as a walk-on but remember, the Hawks will potentially have 6 scholarships available for 2024. From year to year the number of rides can change for a variety of reasons, but if everything stays to form 2024 would be another big recruiting class. You can't teach size and he could be even bigger by then.
