Interesting 1986 Gable article

It’s Oklahoma coaches talking about Gable. I liked this quote by Joe Seay: "The other thing is that Gable's gonna work. He's gonna outwork most people. In fact, most everybody. And he recruits a certain kind of kid. He recruits attitude as opposed to just sheer athletic ability. He recruits kids who if he told them to run through the wall twice they'd probably do it three times."

Interesting article, and I like that quote.

There is also some prescience in the article, not to mention parallels with present-day circumstances. A few quotes that might sound like a lot of today's discussion, 30+ years later:

"You've got 11 scholarships
with 10 weights so you have to split up most of your scholarships. Kids will come to Iowa with less scholarship (share) than they would someplace else."

"It has to be funded properly and Carver provided that money and the leadership has to be there and Kurdelmeier and Gable provided that."

"The Ohio State job is open now. Ohio probably has had more national champions and All Americans (top eight finshers in the NCAA meet) wrestling for other teams in the last eight or 10 years than any other state. So that could be a great situation if they fund it properly . . ."
