I'd be very surprised if he isn't in the rotation next year. Iowa's young ends are promising - Epenesa, Anderson, Campbell, Chineke, Merrieweather.
Can't wait to see him in black and gold on Saturdays. Really hope he gets playing time, at least against the two creampuffs on the schedule. Maybe Rutgers too.
Interesting that both AJ and Iose use the four-point stance, which some might call "antiquated"...especially for an edge player. Doodle wonders if that's something their HS coaches and/or Papa Eppy taught them.
What if.... KFz passes Woody and retires in a year? Does Iose still play for Iowa?
If the HC is promoted from the staff I would bet yes , I think Wallace is the plan Myself

It's incredibly common among college and professional players today.
At least a couple of these guys end up at DT. Epenesa for one. Campbell or Chima as well.
You think he goes inside right away? Are we thinking situational pass rusher like big brother in Year 1?
Yeah, he's playing day 1. He's the pass rusher we've desperately needed.
He will play, but he won't be a day 1 starter. Just like his brother and Van Ness.

Hurkett, Mad Max, Allen, Iose will be DE's.
Allen or Llewellyn at one , Hurkett at the other. Whoever doesn’t start will play a lot anyway.
Yup, and throw in the TR FR from last year on Dline (kid who dad played at PSU, and the big kids from TX and AZ) and you have quite the starter kit. Iose is a potential game wrecking DE...in the limited video I've seen it seems even higher ceiling than AJ?
I don't see him moving inside at all unless it is out of complete need. He probably doesn't have the same strength that AJ had at this point but seems to be a little quicker and more fluid imo.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play some DT during his career situationally, but it would be a criminal misuse of his talent to make him a full time DT.

Probably ... it requires too much functional strength to be successful at both DE and DT from day 1.
Coach Bell likes guys to be versatile and be able to play either on the inside or outside. Chauncey Golston pulled that off. I know that Brian Allen has seen plenty of practice reps on BOTH the inside and outside. IIRC - Van Ness saw some reps on the interior ... although he mostly was at DE.
However, for a young player ... I'd imagine that you have to learn 1 spot well first. Where he'll first make noise? ... dunno ... maybe get situational pass-rush snaps.
The thing is that even though Iowa struggled getting pressure on the QB this year, Hurkett, Llewellyn, and Allen are all guys who've positively flashed in that regard. The problem has been consistency. Another side to that, is that you have to EARN that privilege of getting you opponent into 3rd and longs ... where they're stuck in obvious passing situations. The problem the Hawks had this past season was getting some opponents into those situations. When your opponent is forever seeing 2nd and 3rd and shorts ... that declaws the pass-rush.
Anyhow, I don't know what the shortest path to playing time will be. Our depth is such that DT might be the shortest path.
We have picked up 2 DT’s in the portal, depth is looking better !
True ... we'll have to see how they take to our system though. One of the guys is a veteran ... but the other guy is a promising young guy.
The snap counts his brother received were pretty much ideal. I know the fans that don’t know much about football will say “But but but he didn’t start!”
