With Northwestern beating Minnesota earlier today, I believe that Iowa mathematically HAS to win another game to make the Big Ten tournament now. A win against Northwestern all but guarantees Iowa is in. A loss to Northwestern means Iowa is in a world of trouble and would need to win another game just to pull even with Northwestern. And Northwestern would hold the tiebreaker with Iowa courtesy of their win against Maryland, unless Iowa beats Michigan State. So if Iowa loses against Northwestern and Michigan State, they face the very realistic scenario of being eliminated from the Big Ten tourney before the last game of the season.
Only hope in that scenario would be that Minnesota hasn’t won another game and Iowa beats Nebraska.

Iowa is not making the Big Ten tournament

Which I am completely fine with

No one needs to watch this team play more basketball
If I knew at 3pm on March 9th that Beth would be announcing Iowa MBB is going in a different direction I'd be ok with it. I'm not confident that's the case though. It sucks to be completely irrelevant.

The B1G tournament starts you say?

Great, Fran knows all about losing those games too.

Iowa’s real problem is that USC, Minnesota, and Northwestern will all hold a tiebreaker over Iowa on Saturday (assuming Iowa loses to Northwestern Friday). Iowa would take back the tiebreaker from Northwestern if Iowa can beat Michigan State at home. Otherwise Northwestern owns the tiebreaker courtesy of their win against Maryland. Not good.

So we are in a nail-biting situation?

I guess our spectacular run of Fran-ball at its best is over. I will miss the conference titles and Swet16's of that era.

Nail-biting? I'd say definitely outside looking in now.
I’d say it’s about 50/50 to make the big ten tourney. Oddsmakers will probably have us as a four to six point underdog against Northwestern. So let’s say a 35% chance to win. And then with USC and Minnesota currently tied with Iowa, you have to think USC will beat Washington at home and finish ahead of Iowa. Minnesota finishes @Nebraska, Wisconsin, and @Rutgers and will be underdogs in all those games. Maybe Iowa’s best chance of getting in if they lose to Northwestern is Minnesota losing out and Iowa beating Nebraska on the last game of the season
