This alumni advisory group will assist fundraising efforts for the Carver Circle facility campaign.

The 12-member group includes head coach Tom Brands and is led by chairman Chuck Yagla, a two-time NCAA champion and 1980 Olympian. The committee’s goal is to engage Iowa Wrestling alumni and strengthen the connection between Iowa’s past, present, and future as the program moves forward with the new wrestling facility.

Carver Circle, the Iowa Wrestling facility campaign, is raising funds to build a new facility adjacent to Carver-Hawkeye Arena that supports Iowa Wrestling’s championship standards and validates Iowa City’s reputation as the greatest wrestling city in the world.

To date, the project has received over $10.5 million in gift commitments.

More information on the campaign is available at CarverCircle.com.

And you’re also the guy who told everyone this is unnecessary because the much smaller existing space had been renovated several years ago.

😂

I know you don't care about facts and like to make shit up but the fact of the matter is I questioned at that time (3 years ago) why we needed a new facility when (1) we had just spent all that money on Carver Hawkeye Arena renovations AND (2) when people were making statements about how good the wrestling facilities NOW WERE after those renovations.

Doesn’t sound like he made up anything. You just stated exactly what he said that you said???

I didn't say the new facility was unnecessary, which he alleges incorrectly; I just questioned why a new facility was needed when (1) we had just spent all that money on Carver Hawkeye Arena renovations AND (2) when people were making statements about how good the wrestling facilities NOW WERE after those renovations.

Thanks for starting the thread. It appears you received the answers to your questions. Would you care to share those thoughts?

It's very easy to infer another implied something whenever a question appears to be leading and a specific answer or opinion goes unproffered to that question. That seems to be what happened here:
And you’re also the guy who told everyone this is unnecessary
Some may still be waiting for an opinion like in:
Would you care to share those thoughts?

Yeah, guys. He only “questioned it” and then stood his ground after the questions were answered. I was way off. 😂

I am surprised to find you haven’t shared your thoughts on what the new facility brings vs. your initial questions.
Perhaps you just wanted to share and remind us you started a thread on the campaign contribution thread?

Wrong. Fran does a lot of research on other threads and I find him to be quite resourceful. I truly want to know if he changed his mind.
I’ve tried my best not to name call or be an ass on here. I have called people out before, however, I am not doing that now.

First off, where did the last 3 years go, which is when this campaign started (right in the middle of the start of covid).

I just think fans should be told the truth. Normally Tom doesn't hold back and tells it like it is. Therefore, if the renovation to CHA was just a temporary band aid, I wish he would have said that and why it was just a band aid. Instead, AT THAT TIME, all we saw were statements about how good the wrestling facilities NOW WERE after those renovations.

And now? Whenever a brand new facility, stadium or arena is built, I always hope they did it "right," where it's big enough, where it stands the test of time, where there are no regrets, etc. I hope this applies to the new wrestling facility.

Amazing.

You clearly are very fragile.

Amazing, indeed.

Hardly. It’s amazing that you're still unable to comprehend that the wrestling room upgrades were done over a dozen years ago. They served us well, but that’s an eternity in college sports. Iowa looked into the future and set a standard instead of falling behind.

You seem like the kind of guy who spends his time keeping his 72 Vega running when he has plenty of resources to get something much newer.

I am happy for the wrestling program; the facility looks incredible and I hope this time we have a facility solution that stands the test of time.

However, it's amazing that you aren't able to comprehend that the wrestling room upgrades in CHA were not done OVER a dozen years ago, as you falsely claim. Carver's multi-million dollar facelift was completed in September, 2011, which is LESS than 12 years ago.

8 years, 4 months after the CHA renovation (which is hardly an eternity, as you claim): on Jan 28, 2020 it was announced Iowa would get a new wrestling training facility, pending approval by the Iowa Board of Regents. But work on the project started long before this, of course (the project had received over $9 million in gift commitments, which in part funded a preliminary needs assessment and design plan). The Carver Circle Alumni Advisory group (assisting in fundraising efforts) was announced in July 2020.

And, finally, your analogy between a car (might keep it 5 years) and a building (CHA has been around for over 40 years) was clearly a poor one.

The new facility will not be complete until the spring. From the time the renovations were complete until when the program moves into the new facility will have been more than a dozen years. That's the relevant number here. Not when a new funding campaign was started, because (surprise) it takes years to execute on a massive facilities construction project.

Again, the 2010-11 money was VERY well spent. The program will have gotten over 12 seasons worth of usage out of the renovated space.

By the time Carver Circle is complete, the CHA wrestling room will have been in use for over 40 years, including several updates and upgrades over that time. That IS standing the test of time.

You realize everyone else saw and understood this 3 years ago, yet here you are still holding out. You're like the fighters in the jungle who were still fighting the Vietnam war in the 80s. And doing it while cruising around in your Vega, because dadgummit, it stands the test of time.

I realize you are trying to walk back all of your mistakes and flat out lies, but this is what you wrote: It’s amazing that you're still unable to comprehend that the wrestling room upgrades were done over a dozen years ago.

They clearly were NOT done OVER a dozen years ago.

And, as noted above, you also referred to the 8 years and 4 months between the completion of the CHA renovation and the Jan 28, 2020 announcement that we'd be betting a new wrestling facility as an eternity, which it clearly is not.

VERY well spent?? Not sure about that. It was just a band aid when other programs were passing us by with their new facilities. Finally, by next year, we will have caught up.

But the renovations that were completed in Sep, 2011 clearly didn't stand the test of time for wrestling.

You realize everyone else saw and understood this 3 years ago, yet here you are still holding out.

Why do you lie so much? I clearly am not STILL holding out. And I never was holding out. The truth? Several years ago, I simply had questions on why we needed a new facility when after the 2011 renovations were complete everyone seemed THRILLED with the END RESULT.

You're like the fighters in the jungle who were still fighting the Vietnam war in the 80s. And doing it while cruising around in your Vega, because dadgummit, it stands the test of time.

And here you come up with yet another analogy, where you think it is helping. It clearly is not.

Amazing.

Are all of your posts so ridiculously bad?

Don't answer; I already know.

I’ve been focusing on relevant dates (like project completion and move in dates) because you are caught up in things like capital campaign announcements dates or todays date which are useless when discussing utility and longevity. And your comment about 12 years also shows what I’ve been trying to tell you for 3 years now: you’re out of touch with reality. Things evolve.

I bet you’re super confused why Iowa built the Hansen football performance center when it already had the practice bubble. Hayden loved the bubble! This facility made no sense. Huge waste.

You should focus on accuracy and not flat out lying.

Does anyone take you seriously on here?

Don't answer that....but you will, I am sure.

So Tom didn’t tell the truth? Does this mean he’s a liar? I am not sure how long you have followed Tom closely, he often holds back.

If you were in Tom Brands shoes, you’d come out and publicly state thanks for the bandage but we are looking for a new facility? A head coach doesn’t slap the face of the Board of Regents, the University and its administrators. When the updates were made they were sorely needed, of course he’s going to be happy and say they are great. It shows respect and gratitude to all.

Tom has been hands on with the project since inception. He stated he was more involved with the architecture of the structure more than most coaches, possibly to the point of bothersome. His input is based off what he has seen around the globe, specifically what Russia and Iran have. He has stated it will be the best wrestling facility in the world. There is no doubt it’s being done right. The new complex keeps Iowa at the top of the word in wrestling from the prospective of fans, wrestlers, coaches and the University.

I haven’t ever heard of a new structure being built and then wished something would have been different. That’s just reality. Current recruits definitely have an eye on facilities which puts us in a better position to recruit the best prospects. The current room isn’t even a top 10 wrestling facility in comparison to our competition.
This was a great decision by everyone involved.

Fran doesn’t understand why anyone would paint a room when the plan is to sell the house in 12 years.

Never called Tom a liar. But we didn't get the full story, did we?

Communication is key to everything. You can express your gratitude for the upgrades and also state what the long term goal is.

Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, is just one example where people continue to debate whether they should have invested in a retractable roof (which would have added $100M to the price tag & would have meant a different location because the current location's footprint was too small to accommodate a retractable roof). Those early season games are cold and sometime involve snow showers. And then you have the rain outs & cold weather in the fall.

I can understand why all involved as fund raisiers for cause #1 would not communicate information that might cause their audience to hold off donations to cause #1 in deference to a later more long-lasting cause #2.

I can understand why a donor to cause #1 might wish they had held off their donation to cause #2.

I don't yet understand any expectation of a donor to cause #1 leading them to ascribe their being inadequately informed about cause #2 to a point that they characterize communications during funding-raising for cause #1 as potentially dishonest by omission. But I guess it happens. Probably has something to do with the the donor's ego, if I dared to hazard a guess.

To my knowledge there wasn’t a long term plan in place or being discussed.

I hope you’re fully on board and will enthusiastically support the new wrestling complex.

My point exactly. You had questions concerning if the new complex was going to be done right and stand the test time. It’s being done right, rest easy.
