Iowa averaged the same YPC as Wisconsin

Very potent passing attack for the badgers. We held their run game in check and they had no big plays. In reality if BF chose to we could have run all over them. No doubt there should have been more straight ahead running from Iowa.
Our pass defense got worked badly in play action and by the TE. Their FB was doing a lot vs. Byu and was effective against us as well. On top of that the badgers OL shut down our pass rush. Epenesa should have been in more as he seemed to be the only guy who could get close.

But Wisconsin ran all over us with that vaunted OL, right?......Or so I keep hearing.

Wisconsin's ground game didn't hurt us like Barkley did last year. Our lack of experience in the secondary, allowing Hornibrook to throw for 3 TDs is what did Iowa in, at least from a defensive perspective.
I think we were the better team this time. We just weren’t better enough to overcome the mistakes and foregone opportunities. We had several chances to take a two score lead. Also on defense all we needed was one more stop at the end. That’s how BYU won. Wisconsin needed everything to go right to win. I thought I heard we averaged 8 yards per play on offense and Wiscy only 5 yards per play, roughly. That ought to be good enough to win.

Another great (and terrible because I'm a fan, so of course this f***ing happened) example is the Vikings-Bills game today.

Did anyone really think Buffalo was the better team going in? Is Buffalo now the better team because Minnesota absolutely collapsed in the 1st half of that game?

It's sad, but I'm honestly not even mad about that because I've seen way too many of these weekends where all the teams I support/root for lose in spectacular fashion, just to make sure the dockage lasts the whole week and not leave me with anything to be happy about going into the next week.........

Iowa did run the ball very well between the tackles. That does not invalidate the reality that the defense never stopped Wisconsin's ground game. The D line got mauled last night, just like they did the past two years. Giving up 200+ rushing yards ia a pretty likely prediction of a losing effort.

This. Iowa was the better team, but a couple stupid errors cost the game. Take way the two fumble return gaffes and Iowa wins that game going away. It wasn't wrapped up pretty with a bow, but Iowa gave Wisconsin a gift Saturday night. The sad part is that it's probably not just a game, we very likely handed them another trip to the B1G championship game. That's what really makes me sick.

This. You can't turn the ball over 2 times to there zero and also come away empty on a trip inside the redzone and expect to win against an evenly matched opponent. I agree with out that all else being equal, Iowa appears to be the better team overall. Just mistakes that killed them.
