Here's hoping that yesterday's win was a much needed shot in the arm. Iowa moved up 18 spots in Warren Nolan's RPI ratings - due in large part to the win. Now sitting at 89. ELO Rankings have Iowa at #67; up 19 spots after beating Tech.

Can't afford to stumble against the mid-week teams this week (St. Thomas and Grandview). Then taking at least 2/3 against Central Michigan is a must.

That leads them into a mid week game against #33 RPI Illinois State and the B1G opening weekend in Ann Arbor against #22 Michigan.

Some particularly lackadaisical play on defense, awful control from the pitching staff and inability to put the ball in play have combined to put the Hawks in a hole. Any of the good "ju-ju" from the first 3 games was almost immediately lost and there really isn't a ton of room for further error if this team is going to try to earn a NCAA Regional bid.

After the basketball teams flamed out more quickly than expected, we need the baseball team to heal our wounds!

Injuries piling up for Iowa. Iowa losing to St Thomas. They are almost dead last in RPI. It'd be a disasterous loss. Worse than Loras actually.
Just landed in Charlotte. Have about 75 minutes before next flight. Tuned into the radio broadcast. Stunned to hear them down 4-2 but they are rallying with the bases juiced and no outs. Truly need to put up a big inning here.

According to the Warren Nolan site, Iowa will lose 81 RPI points even if it pulls out a win. They'll fall to either 101 or 102. If they don't win, they'll lose 245 RPI points. They'd fall into the 130s.

Now 4-3. 1 out; runners on corners.

Yeah, winning almost erases what beating Tech did. I've never seen a system punish for winning like that.

Beating Tech was worth 150 RPI points. They'll lose more than half of those points if they can hold on. I know that Iowa needs mid-week games to get the younger players some reps but it is definitely a RPI detracting opponent.

Iowa pulls out a 6-5 win. Disaster avoided.

RPI updated. Falls from 89 to 102.

Listening to post-game show. Sutherland commented that CMU has two stud pitchers. Iowa needs to find its bats.

What type of RPI is needed for regional consideration? Super stoked to see Iowa play here in Omaha during Big Ten Tournament and maybe twice someday for CWS!

Agreed. Fall into the 50s (particularly in a northern conference like the B1G) and the chances of receiving a Regional bid are minimal.
That's why it would be so beneficial right now to have another win or two against Irvine, Wichita, or AMCC.

Then get rid of RPI.......................
