Iowa takes a 10-2 record to Texas for a four game series vs hbu on sat-tue. Hopefully Iowa continues to work and improve. HBUs starting rotation doesn't seem too bad.

They knocked off #8 Houston earlier this season so they have a decent squad. This will be a tough 9 day stretch for the Hawks. The competition is a step up from what the 1st couple of weeks offered. I personally think a 5-2 trip would be outstanding considering the number of runners we have been leaving on base. Lets hope for better production with RISP.

Iowa falls 7-1 to HBU, Iowa's lone run was on a Schenck-Joblinske solo HR.

Offensively Iowa just couldn't get it going despite having 10 hits, they had guys on 1st & 2nd in the first two innings with one out and grounded into double plays. Iowa also loaded the bases in the 3rd with 2 outs, but popped out to 2nd. Iowa left a total of 11 runners on base and on a day like today when pitching was not crisp it will come back to haunt you.

Iowa's pitching was not it's best today, Tyler Peyton had his worst outing of the season going 2 1/3 allowing six hits and four runs. Ryan Erickson threw 4 2/3 and did allow seven hits and three runs (two earned). Nick Allgeyer threw one inning with no hits or runs on his part.

Dan Potempa led the way going 3-5 on the day, Joel Booker was 2-4, and Jake Mangler was 2-5. As I said earlier Eric Schenck-Joblinske hit a solo HR, it was a pinch hit one so he was 1-1 on the day.

Heller's post game comments, you can tell he was not pleased. He said the energy was bad, focus was not good, and they missed some signs. Says from a coaching standpoint it was a terrible day. At least he is honest about things.

Iowa needs to really get things going offensively or we may see a team that I think is better than last years or in recent years underachieve a bit, especially if our pitching comes back to earth a bit. We can't expect our pitching to give up 0-2 runs each and every game of the season.

Iowa is back at it on Sunday with Blake Hickman taking the mound for Iowa. Hopefully Blake brings his good stuff with him for the Hawkeye fans down in Houston. He can be really fun to watch.

Iowa falls to HBU 5-1 today. Hickman went seven innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Jared Mandel also threw an inning and gave up a run.

Offensively for Iowa, our biggest fears are coming true. Iowa had one run on four hits.

Iowa has two runs in the first two games of this series, not going to win many if any series/games doing that.

Iowa and HBU have two more games with Calvin Mathews and a TBA pitching.

Iowa defeats HBU today 7-2.

Calvin Mathews threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings allowing four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. He also gets credited with the W.

Connor Grant threw three innings. However, made things interesting in the 9th by giving up a walk, single, and hit by pitch to load the bases.

Vandermaten came in to throw the final 2/3 of a inning he also had a hit by pitch and gave up a fly out which allowed HBU to plate their two runs. Iowa sure likes to make things interesting in the 9th inning sometimes.

Offensively Iowa had 15 hits...

Jake Mangler was 4-5 with 2 RBI
Joel Booker was 3-5
Tyler Peyton was 2-5 with an RBI
John Barrett was 1-1 with 2 RBI as a pinch hitter

That's a little more like it.

Heller said Martsching gets the nod on Tuesday, will be treated like a true midweek start. Also said other guys who have yet to pitch this series will see action. I imagine we will see Hibbing and Radtke for sure.

Iowa baseball defeats HBU 7-2 today to spit the series and move to 12-4 on the year. Iowa faces Kansas in a three game series Fri-Sun in Lawrence,KS next.

Jake Mangler was 2-5 with 2 RBI
Eric Toole was 2-4
Nick Roscetti was 2-4 with an RBI

Iowa had 9 hits total and a lot of them were very timely hits today that plated runs.

Iowa had a "Johnny Wholestaff" day today as Martsching went 2 innings, Allgeyer went 2 innings, Gallagher went 1 inning, Shulista went 1 2/3, Radtke went 1 1/3, and Hibbing went 1. Allgeyer got credited with the W.

This was pretty much best case for Iowa in this series considering we started things 0-2.
