Iowa will play three games in Florida this weekend after going 0-3 @ DBU last week.

Friday - 1pm - vs Indiana State
Saturday - 10am - vs Dartmouth
Sunday - 9:30am - vs Chicago State

C.J. Eldred will get the Saturday start for Iowa. Indiana State will be tough as they are currently 3-1 on the year with wins over Oral Roberts and Ark-Little Rock.

Iowa will be Dartmouth's season opener. The Dartmouth pitcher looks pretty salty, Duncan Robinson is the Ivy League Preseason Pitcher of the Year. He was 6-2 with a 2.62 ERA last year.

Chicago State is 1-2 vs Texas A&M - Corpus Christi

Hopefully Iowa can get things going this weekend and get some wins. The Dartmouth game looks a lot tougher than I first thought given our pitching situation against theirs. This Robinson guy pitched five innings of shutout ball vs Texas A&M. Iowa needs to make him work and get the pitch count up.

Iowa loses to Indiana State 11-3. It has become painfully obvious that we are not good offensively or defensively. Losing guys like Mangler, Toole, Goodman, and Day are really showing.

Iowa had their chances, but couldn't get any hits when they needed them. Iowa did eventually scatter ten hits. Iowa was walked six times by the Ind State starter. Specifically in the first inning when Iowa had the bases loaded with one out and couldn't get anything going. Iowa stranded 14 total.

Iowa had three errors which led to a couple of unearned runs. However, our pitching wasn't nearly as crisp either.

Pitching
-Tyler Peyton 3 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
-Ryan Erickson 5.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R(4 earned), 1 BB, 2 K
-Sam Lizarraga .1 IP, 1 K

Offense
-Mason McCoy 3-5, 1 RBI, 1 R
-Nick Roscetti 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B
-Joel Booker 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B
-Corbin Woods 1-4, 1 RBI

Iowa faces Dartmouth on Saturday Morning. CJ Eldred pitches for Iowa, while Iowa will face the Ivy League Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Interesting state I heard Heller give during his post game interview on Hawkeye Sports. Iowa is 3-35 on the year with runners in scoring position, our opponents are 14-35.

That is .085 with RISP, going to be a long year if that trend continues.

Hate to say it, bu this is looking like one of Dahm's teams so far.

Yes it is. I figured there may be a step back with the talent Iowa lost, but it appears to be a bigger step back than I expected. It doesn't help that Ryan Erickson has struggled this year so far, he was key last year. He would come in and just shut it down and bridge things til we needed Nick Hibbing.

While Iowa may be looking like one of Dahm's teams so far this year, no need to panic just yet. They have play two quality opponents. The hitting with RISP stats won't last and the starting pitching is proven and will settle in.

Six good innings is pretty valuable. Hopefully he can go deeper into games this year but if not the bullpen needs to step up.

I agree, Mathews is a solid Sunday guy. He is better than most starters he matches up against. However, when he can only go four, five, maybe six innings then the bullpen needs to step up as you said. Can they? We will see

We need run support though too!

Hawks with their first win of the season 4-1. Eldred goes 5 innings allowing 1 run, 5 K's a walk and 4 hits. Allgeyer finishes it off with 4 solid innings with 4 K's and a hit allowed. McCoy, Roscetti, Peyton, Frankos, Pickett, Boe and Guzzo each had one hit.

Iowa defeats Dartmouth 4-1 to get their first win of the year. Iowa got to Dartmouth starter Duncan Robinson in the 1st inning by stringing together some hits and plating three runs. Iowa added an unearned run in the 5th inning. Iowa didn't hit as well with RISP as the game went on. Iowa did strikeout 11 times.

CJ Eldred threw 5 innings, 4 Hits, 1 ER, 5 K's
Nick Allgeyer 4 innings, 1 hit, 4 K's

Allgeyer has pitched well this year so far and Eldred's outing was promising as well.

Iowa faces Chicago State on Sunday at 9:30am. It would be nice to go 2-1 on the weekend especially after the 0-4 start.

No, no, no... that is not how you do this.

First, you degrade, deride and/or generally throw a wet blanket over anything University of Iowa athletics related. Then, when you are wrong so very many times, you convince the most gullible that you knew all along how good the Hawks were.... you were just spoofin'.

Carry on.

We generally keep the baseball talk civil but thanks for stopping by.

Is Chicago state any good? In any case, good to see 15 runs on 19 hits. Needed the bats to wake up.

Chicago State isn't exactly what I'd call quality, with the loss to Iowa they are 2-5. Chicago State has a victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Villanova. Chicago State was 13-40-1 in 2015. However, I think it was important for Iowa just to get those first couple victories and get the offense going. Especially with a new group of guys.

Iowa has a three game series @ Southern Illinois next weekend. SIU is 4-3 on the year currently.
