Iowa baseball took 2 of 3 from Michigan this weekend

Don’t follow baseball nationally, was wondering whom we’ve played that are probable tournament teams?

Indiana and Minnesota are both likely in. Indiana is 20 in the RPI, Minnesota 28. Missouri State is on the fringes, at 51 in the RPI. Iowa also has Oklahoma State and Missouri this week, both of whom are Top 25 in the RPI. Illinois is 48 and Ohio State is 38, both of those teams are possibilities too.

The Big 10 teams you list are the possibilities. I doubt all of them plus Iowa get in, not seeing 6 Big 10 teams. Michigan has the gaudy record and might win the regular season title, but they are going to need to actually do something against the good teams on their schedule to get in. Wolverines are just 2-6 against Top 50 teams and have played only 13 games against Top 100 teams. Iowa on the other hand is 6-5 against Top 50 and has played 19 games against Top 100 teams. And Iowa still will have games with Missouri and Oklahoma State. Iowa is 5-0 against 200+ teams in the RPI, while Michigan is 15-0. Much of Michigan's record has come from whaling on bad teams.

That's why this week is so important for Iowa's post-season hopes. Iowa finishes the last 2 weekends with Penn State and Northwestern, which is good for moving up in the Big 10 standings potentially but both of those teams are 220+ in the RPI. Just playing those teams will hurt Iowa from an RPI standpoint. Need to go 2-2 or better against Missouri and Oklahoma State this week and then win as many as possible against PSU/Northwestern.

Took the youngest to the game on Saturday for kids day. Great day outside but 4 terrible errors put the game out of reach. Had never been to an Iowa baseball game before inside. Place needs some work and looks like it will get redone. There were just shy of 2,600 people (not sure if that also counted kids that didn't need a ticket to get in) there on Saturday and was basically standing room only for some. One small Mens restroom and one small Womens. Need some addition there. The kid loved going down on the field after and running around in the outfield.
