Iowa Baseball vs Penn State

Iowa hosts Penn State this weekend. Due to the threat of rain, it will be a DH on Friday and a single game on Saturday. Friday's DH starts at 2pm. Saturday is scheduled for 2pm.

Friday: Game 1 - Nick Gallagher, Game 2 - Ryan Erickson
Saturday: Elijah Wood

This is a very important series for Iowa, a very winnable one too.

No DH today, one game is still on for today at 6:50pm. Then it looks like 2pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday with a very fluid schedule.

Well looks like tonight is a DH again. Holy crap! For sure going to be playing past midnight.

Won first game 4-2, Gallagher with a very strong outing going 8 with 10 Ks! Only allowed 3 hits, no walks. Martsching with the save. Game 2, up 6-0, Boe with 3 RBI has a double and a triple. Erickson pitching solid.

Hawks won the late game 8-2. Erickson 7.1 innings gave up a run on 4 hits and 3 walks, struck out 5. Ritter came in, didn't do so well in 2/3 inning walked 3 and gave up a hit, only one run though. Martsching got the final 3 outs. Solid pitching for the 2 games, only 3 earned runs, 17 K's, 6 walks and 9 hits. Should have plenty of arms ready for tomorrow.

It was close to 1:30. Probably a little before. Judkins home run was at 1:00.

You really can't ask for a better start from either Erickson or Gallagher. Iowa did exactly what they needed to do and now sit at 8-6 in B1G play.

Also per Iowa Baseball twitter, todays game time is already TBA now with more info at noon. Their best chance to get the game in looks to be between 6pm-10pm today.

They probably could've got the game in had it been at say 9am today too, but that isn't feasible with the late ending I'd say.

Hawks sweep!! 9-1 victory, offense came on late, all 9 runs scored in the 7th and 8th, Adams hit his 16th homer. Pitching was solid all weekend, only 4 earned runs in 27 innings!

Iowa beats Penn State 9-1 and gets a much needed sweep.

Iowa scored all 9 runs in the 7th and 8th innings.
-Jake Adams was 2-5 with a HR and 2 RBIs
-Tyler Cropley 2-3 with a HR and 2 RBIs
-Robert Neustrom was 3-5 with an RBI
-Matt Hoeg was 2-3 with 2 RBIs

Elijah Wood started the game for Iowa and scattered a lot of hits but no damage.

-Drake Robison 3 1/3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 Walks, 2 K's
-Zach Daniels 2 1/3 IP, 1 Walk, 3 K's, Gets credited with the W

Iowa is now 27-15 and 9-6 in the B1G. Iowa could be tied for 2nd or 3rd depending on what happens Sunday. Iowa travels to Western Illinois on Tuesday and Michigan State next weekend.

If Nebraska loses today, it will be tied for 2nd.

With that said, there certainly is a log jam from 2-9. One bad weekend from one team and one good weekend from another and you could find yourself going from 3rd to 8th.

Even winning one out of the four we lost would put Iowa alone in 2nd. With that said, I said 2 or so weeks ago we will look back and say we may have been CJ Eldred short of a B1G title. I obviously don't want to make excuses, but you add him to the weekend rotation and they'd be very salty.
