Iowa basketball team pauses workouts after two positive COVID-19 tests

Yeah, actually its better in just about every other country in the world. The US has been the textbook definition of a massive failure as it relates to responding to Covid.

Perhaps you should be sheltering in place in somewhere in southern Angola then...

Many so-called adults have difficulty adhering to recommendations. In no way can it be expected that 19 year olds will isolate themselves and follow strict observance of distancing, mask use, hand washing, etc.
Any strategy to minimize exposure in this population predicated on them following guidelines at a high rate is doomed to failure.
Isolation is one of the steps now?

It's just because we test far more than any other country.

:facepalm

That's not what I said. Let me spell it out for you. It's a virus, it's not worse here than it is anywhere else.

US makes up about 4% of the world population while accounting for nearly a quarter of all the Covid deaths worldwide.

Perhaps you should be sheltering in place in somewhere in southern Angola then...

Typical response to deflect from our countries failures, both in leadership and individual irresponsibility, ignorance and selfishness while dealing with this pandemic.

No matter how everyone feels about the virus, the common thing is that it's impacting everyone's life. I know some of you love to tell people to go hide under their bed. While that might make you feel tough, it's actually counterproductive to what you want. We all want sports this fall, but if the only solution is to tell people to hide, well that's not a solution. And that's why we're seeing sports being questionable for this fall. We have a situation where this virus was not handled correctly by our leadership and now we're dealing with the outcome.

What is your schtick going to be like in January when you need to find a new person to blame all of the worlds problems on???

I'll find a new person to blame once someone else qualifies. How about that?

What is your schtick? Why don't you and your pals wake up and admit the reality all around you? There's no mystery here. Trump has been a horrible person his entire life. You can look it up. The evidence is everywhere. But when he gets into a position of power through the back door and then acts like a racist buffoon, a sociopath, an egomaniac and literally puts my life in jeopardy, well, I get a little upset.

You, sir, need to stop drinkin' the bleach.

Like I said: no baseball, no football, no basketball, no job, no nothing? There is one person to blame. Sorry if that fact doesn't fit with your cult's mantra.

Not sure how many "countries" you think we have,.. but I'll take your response as a negative vote for your moving to Angola...

You're an idiot. He walked in the front door to beat cankles in the election, Biden is going to lose worse and it's going to be comical to listen to your whining.

what hurt the US when dealing with a pandemic- diversity, vast geography, rights of states, political and social freedom, etc- is what makes the US great.
People forget that unlike Europe, Russia, China, and most other countries much of these decisions are not under federal control, something they don't have to worry about in most other countries. It does make a difference......

So why am I supposed to be in some Trump cult? You don't know anything about me. I've said publicly the guys an ass, and continues to show it daily. However, to say that Trump is any more of a horrible corrupt person that HRC, is ridiculous, insane, and simply not true. She and her sidekick slick Willy are two of the most corrupt, lying deciteful people on the planet, let alone to have inhabited the White house. I wouldn't have voted for her over literally anyone alive. Much of what I've learned about Trump has come post 2016. Would I vote for him again, probably not, but I sure as hell won't vote for some clown like Biden, or any other dem who wants to turn the country into a socialist republic, thank you Mr. Obama. My kingdom for a worthy candidate, PLEASE!!!!!!
I also don't see how this answers why you can't post a single thing on this board that doesn't reference Trump. I think pretty much everyone on this board regardless of their political views is sick of it. Take it somewhere else, PLEASE.......

So you're one of those folks who, when someone has a viewpoint different than yours, brands said person a "moron"? Then we know a little about you too.

See how that works?

Outstanding. You and Aristotle go have your anti Trump circle jerk. Don't really care. Pretty funny though that your calling someone else a moron because you read something they posted on a website and then you're all knowing. Pot meet kettle.......

Tell that to Texas, Florida, Georgia, California, Wisconsin, ...
Death #s, not those who have simply caught it and recovered.

The rest is all window dressing.

NY and NJ governors failed ...not the White House.

Take NY/NJ death #s and cut them by 2/3 and the country is doing pretty damn well for a "deadly" pandemic.

It would be just slightly higher (1-2%) than the standard flu each year.

Sure, there are some who will incur serious (or mild) long term effects. Almost all of them had existing respiratory issues prior to catching Covid.

Reported deaths. The numbers out of Russia, China, India and many more countries are not reliable in the least. Most of Europe have 600 deaths per million as opposed to the U.S. at 440 per million.

I hear from you he has been a horrible person. But how? As President he has done more for the black community in this country than Obama ever did. Yet he's the racist? And what would you have done that he didn't do before any of your joke Dems even thought of it. Remember It was Bidden, Pelosi, and even Fauci that said he was wrong to stop travel from China in January.
When Cumo cried about not enough ventilators, or hospital beds, Trump got him both. And guess what? He didn't even use them. Instead he used nursing homes for covid patients. But just keep reading twitter for your news.

NY and NJ were the first states to get hit hard. Where was the federal government when this was taking off? It wasn't a state health issue, it is a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. No state is prepared to handle that alone nor should it be in a situation so grave.

Did you see this lovely set of tweets?

“I am happy to inform all of the people living their Suburban Lifestyle Dream that you will no longer be bothered or financially hurt by having low income housing built in your neighborhood...”

“...Your housing prices will go up based on the market, and crime will go down. I have rescinded the Obama-Biden AFFH Rule. Enjoy!”

Trying to impeach Trump was going on! It's easy to play the blame game when you are sitting on the outside. Right from the beginning the elderly were the most vulnerable, it was and still is. So why did we put infected people in nursing homes? This falls on the governors of NY and NJ/

That's the problem with this government. NO ONE takes responsibility for anything they do or don't do.

You need to do some research. Cuomo shat his pants on stocking up per recommendations by the Obama administration after the H1N1 pandemic of ‘09. The governors for each state control preparedness to address natural disasters and health emergencies.

Also, Trump sent NY massive amounts of resources, including a US Navy hospital ship to use for as overflow contingency.

You are about as gullible as they come.

Your numbers are dwindling. By election day, might not be many of you who doubted those of us who trusted science over Trump. Remember to vote at your precinct in person. Nothing to fear, right?

Fear of Covid 19 didn’t stop massive protests & riots w/ seemingly no concern about spread in the “Fake News Media” so going to the polls shouldn’t be a problem.

By the way, its the states that dictate how they will fight Covid. not necessarily Trump. Epic failure by the likes of Cuomo and Murphy, both Democratic govenors,,,,thousands died in nursing homes , their responsibility. Know your facts!

Do either of those people serve as governor of Florida or Texas?

Right.

Also, remove the debacles of NY and NJ (or at least cut their numbers by 2/3) and the US is doing fine.

How can you reasonably stand by an argument based on excluding cases from our most populated city?

So remove Auschwitz and the holocaust wasn't that bad, right?

I don't care to pick sides in your squabble, but you take a moronically obvious apples-and-oranges comparison and make one of the bigger dick comments I've read on here in quite a long time.

I would agree that the response on most levels was sub-par. Partly due to it being a different virus and partly because all previous scientific learning on how to handle a virus/pandemic was completely thrown out the window. In any crisis where the unknown and missing information results in bad decisions, NY and NJ were Exhibit A as to how one bad decision -- sending COVID positive nursing home patients back into hospitals -- ended up killing a bunch of people. I'm not even blaming the governors of those states as they thought they needed to free up regular hospital beds for other patients. But it was the decisions made by Cuomo and Murphy ended up killing a bunch of people. Meanwhile the floating hospital and the temp hospital in the Javitts Center ended up not being used.

Meanwhile Pence and his meaningless task force focused all resources and attention on testing and ventilators, without focusing a solution on protecting the most vulnerable. By late March, there was enough data as to who was dying and who was not from COVID. But even through today the feds are still out there bragging about testing volume and ventilators.

It is a virus. Short of a vaccine or community immunity, there is no "stamping it out." Holding that out as a reasonable outcome short of immunity (either with a vaccine or community spread) will just continue to cause the panic. NY and NJ have reached this, with a high cost in terms of lives lost. Yes, the cases have grown in the Sun Belt and other areas, but it was always going to happen barring everyone hiding in their homes for 6 weeks. And that is not an option as it would result in societal collapse.

I don't claim to know the best way forward, other than figuring in the negative impacts of closing schools, putting 40-50M people out of work, stopping surgeries when balanced against the impacts of the virus is a reasonable request. Those of us who are saying "let's not shut everything down" don't just want people to die.

The real answer is working together for a solution based on science and research. So far there is no cohesive solution(s). Why? That starts at the top. We need leadership, not by pointing fingers, but from people who will listen to those with knowledge.
