Iowa lawmakers are once again trying to pass a “hands free” law that would ban drivers from holding a cell phone while behind the wheel. This year, they’re also trying to ban traffic cameras in the same bill.

This is probably the most reasonable legislation to come out of Iowa this year. Speed camera's are dumb and the hands free bill is unenforceable. I agree with the idea of it, in principle, but the reality is it is impossible for cops to regulate this. We've had it in Illinois for around a decade now and I have never heard of anyone actually getting pulled over or having to pay a fine for it and I know they are still texting while driving.

The fact that this is the most reasonable legislation this year is saying something.

You're going to have a tough time selling the speed camera bill to communities that rake in boatloads of cash with them.
