The Iowa Senate Transportation Committee advanced a bill that would require the state Department of Transportation to issue a “Don’t Tread on Me” license plate.

Introduced by Sen. Scott Webster, R-Bettendorf, Senate Study Bill 1162 would allow Iowans to purchase license plates with elements of the “Don’t Tread on Me” or Gadsden flag. The plates would be golden yellow and include the image of a black-and-white coiled snake in green grass.

Sen. Scott Webster, R-Bettendorf Sen. Scott Webster, R-Bettendorf
The Gadsden flag was designed during the Revolutionary War in 1775 to symbolize resistance to tyranny and support for individual rights. The flag has come to be used by various groups and protesters, including in recent years by right-wing protesters such as the Jan. 6, 2021, rioters at the U.S. Capitol.

Each would cost $50 for five letter-number designated plates. The annual fee would be $5 in addition to the annual special Gadsden flag fee and the regular annual registration fee.

Funds from the fee would go to the state Department of Public Safety to provide grants for education and training on “the right to keep and bear arms and training on firearm safety.”

All Democratic members of the Senate Transportation Committee voted against the legislation.

Already here in TN. Makes me laugh every time - often on the back of a $60k+ SUV or truck.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) is pleased to announce that the Gadsden Flag specialty license plate has been delivered to tax collector offices and license plate agencies statewide. Floridians who purchased presale vouchers for the specialty plate are able to redeem them at their local tax collector office or license plate agency, and those who wish to purchase the new plate are advised to contact their local office prior to visiting to ensure stock is available.

The revenue collected annually from the sale of the Gadsden Flag specialty license plate will be distributed to the Florida Veterans Foundation, a direct-support organization of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, to be used to benefit veterans.

Nothing says "stop tyranny" better than a government-mandated tracking device that is manufactured by prison labor.

Lots and lots and lots of these in VA. Although I'm personally sort of gun-agnostic, when I moved to the western part of the state, I got a Gadsden cycling jersey, in the hope of decreasing the likelihood of being run off the road by a truck driver that doesn't like cyclists. As it turns out, there's almost no traffic to worry about, but I do get a periodic wave from teh drivers.

I'll snatch up several for our personal and company vehicles.

the sheer size of the "conservative political merch" industry is incredible

little surprise states want in the action too

Iowa Republicans are hellbent on avoiding cancer rates, dirty water, sliding schools, and one of the worst economies in the country. Eff you guys.

Reminds me of Facebook. You learn alot about people from their posts.

I have actual people for the most part silenced on Facebook. I just use it to keep tabs on content about my interests, happenings, etc. If I saw the dipshit ramblings of people I actually know on FB I'd treat them like I treat HORTers and I don't need that drama IRL.

I have that flag in my gym because of a drunk purchase back in the day.

I had a shirt with it because it was a symbol for US Soccer for a period of time. I threw it away when the toothless simps commandeered it. Shame too, because it’s cool.
