The governing body of Iowa’s public universities has changed its name and logo to better reflect its mission and duties.
The state Board of Regents announced Monday it has changed its name from “Board of Regents, State of Iowa,” to “Iowa Board of Regents.” According to a news release announcing the change, the new logo reflects more than 100 years of steering Iowa’s public higher education institutions and its service to the state and those in it.

“Following the departure of the Iowa School for the Deaf and Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Board of Regents has focused on delivering high-quality, higher education opportunities for Iowans,” the release stated. “The new name and logo reflect the board’s mission to produce and disseminate knowledge, prepare students to make positive contributions to society and to serve the state of Iowa to expand opportunities.”

Earlier this year, the Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Iowa School for the Deaf were moved under the governance of the Iowa Department of Education as part of Gov. Kim Reynolds’ government reorganization plan, with the reasoning that it would be better for them to be placed alongside Iowa’s other K-12 schools.
