I have no beer knowledge, I just know what beers I like best, and those are czech pilsners. My descriptions are likely full of shit and don't make sense but I thought it might be fun to help find the best light lager/pilsner Iowa has to offer. Was at Hy-Vee and I did not seeing any Iowa brewed czech pilnsers in stock so I went with 3 lagers/german pilsners.
First: Backpocket Gold Coin (helles blonde lager) pretty good. Almost has a bit of a wheat beer taste with a shandy element. Easily my favorite of these three.
Second: West O Pilsner (german style lager) also pretty good but it has a much darker taste. Almost like brown ale. I like the taste but this seems almost like a dessert beer with its heaviness. Second place but it was closer to third than first.
Third: Big Grove Brewery Northside helles lager beer. The lightest tasting, almost has a bud light aspect to it. A bit watery. Just alright for me dog but the most poundable of the three on a golf course on a hot summer day.
What say you Iowans?
