Iowa cannot play in the Gator, Outback or Pinstripe. 8-4 or 9-3 & no Indy? Holiday Bowl (San Diego)

That's according to Scott Dochterman on NOVEMBER 3.

As you can see below, had Iowa won the B1G West but lost to tOSU, their bowl destination would have been likely the Citrus.

Also, as you can see from his tweets below, he says if Iowa finishes 9-3/8-4 & no Indy, then Iowa is probably heading to San Diego and the Holiday Bowl.

A Big Ten team will be in the Rose Bowl – it’ll be the champion if not in the College Football Playoff.

College Football Playoff Semifinal: If Selected

1. Rose Bowl vs. Pac-12

2. Citrus Bowl vs. ACC or SEC

– Agreement for Citrus is for five different teams in six years, so no Penn State, Minnesota or Michigan, if possible.

3. Outback Bowl vs. SEC

– Agreement is for five different teams in six years, so no Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan or Northwestern, if possible.

4. San Diego Country Credit Union Holiday Bowl vs. Pac-12

– Agreement is for five different teams in six years, so no Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern or Wisconsin, if possible.

5. TaxSlayer Bowl vs. SEC OR

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl vs. SEC

– ACC and Big Ten combine in the Music City and TaxSlayer, with each getting three appearances in six years. The Big Ten played in TaxSlayer in 2015 and the Music City in 2016, 2017 & 2018. It’s almost certainly going to be in the TaxSlayer, but no Iowa or Penn State, if possible.

New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. ACC

– It’s not official, but the bowl would prefer to have eight different teams in eight years, so no Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State or Wisconsin, if possible.

Redbox Bowl vs. Pac-12

– Agreement is for five different teams in six years, so no Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska or Purdue, if possible.

Quick Lane Bowl vs. ACC

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl vs. Mountain West

– Agreement for three SERVPRO First Responders and three Armed Forces bowls in six years. The Big Ten hasn’t been in the Armed Force Bowl since 2014. The Big 12 is contracted to play in the SERVPRO First Responders in 2019.

Apparently the “if possible” wasn’t possible last year concerning the Outback Bowl. Who knows?

I love how all of these end with “if possible”. So basically they are free to do whatever they want when push comes to shove. So I guess “if possible” Iowa won’t repeatedly go to the Outback bowl over and over, but once the Holiday Bowl picks Michigan and the Citrus Bowl picks Wisconsin, there won’t be anywhere else for Iowa to go this year but back to the Outback.

As in if they are bowl eligible.

Outback gets first pick over the Holiday Bowl so your hypothetical isn't an option.

Ah, OK. Well hopefully Iowa can just win out and go to the Rose Bowl and make this a moot point! Other than that and I would really like to get the Holiday Bowl this year.

Minnesota at 9-3 would be an Outback lock IMO which in turn with the above puts Iowa in the Gator or Redbox.

Based on this, here's where everyone would be.
Rose: Penn State
Citrus: Wisconsin
Outback: Minnesota
Holiday: Iowa
Tax Slayer: Michigan
Pinstripe: Indiana

Isn’t this like 4 threads on Iowa’s bowl prospects?
Yes, the OP is an attention whore. We have fun with it and he keeps posting so the relationship works for all of us. :D
Lets be clear. It is Iowahawkeyefbnbb4life who has started all of the bowl threads.

On Monday I started the "we can't play in these bowls" thread because the info comes from a respected reporter, Scott Dochterman. We can't play in the the Gator Bowl. Period. Iowahawkeyefbnbb4life knows that. Dochterman explains exactly why. Yet, what does Iowahawkeyefbnbb4life do? 2 days later (yesterday) he starts the thread titled "All signs point to the Gator Bowl."

Incredible. His posting behavior is a big reason why so many think he is a Nebraska fan troll. Yet people feed the trolls like him on here anyway.

On the last OnIowa podcast, Scott or Marc estimated the odds at something like 65% Holiday, 30% Citrus, 5% other.

Let's be clear, it's difficult to determine who is more of an attention whore; you or Iowahawkeyefbnbb4life.

Right Fran, thought I was in another 4life thread. Sorry for the confusion.

Wouldn’t this scenario require the Holiday Bowl passing on Michigan? Is there reason to believe they would do that?

I think the Holiday really really wants Iowa. It’s a new destination for Iowa fans.

The Holiday Bowl is a fun trip. Ask the fans and players, and band, that went back in the 80s. They do a first class job.

Bowl games are all about tourism. Those of us that live in Iowa understand the importance of touring elsewhere...and the place with America's best weather, best zoo and marine park is about as good a place to tour as any.

Holiday Bowl has a good TV slot too. Friday night kick at 7 pm cst. Will be one of the premier non playoff/New years 6 that ESPN markets.

On Nov 3 we knew, barring a collapse, that we were heading to the Holiday Bowl.

We also knew on Nov 3 that we can't go to the Gator Bowl.

Nevertheless, this is what ESPN.com is projecting today, November 17:

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl
TIAA Bank Field, Jacksonville, Florida
Jan. 2, 7 p.m., ESPN

Bonagura: Iowa vs. Tennessee
Schlabach: Iowa vs. Tennessee

Gator Bowl reps were in IC on Saturday.
