Iowa cannot play in the Gator, Outback or Pinstripe. 8-4 or 9-3 & no Indy? Holiday Bowl (San Diego)

The following article comes from USA Today.

Some excerpts:

December 4, 2019

Holiday Bowl
Restrictions: None

Likely B1G team: Iowa
Potential Opponents: USC, Washington

Iowa can book its ticket to the Holiday Bowl. No matter how the above scenarios play out, it all leads to Iowa here.

* The Hawkeyes are restricted from the Outback and Gator Bowls.

* They won’t be selected for a New Year's 6 Bowl.

* They won't be selected for the Citrus Bowl.

* The Big Ten won’t let the Hawkeyes fall farther than this, so even if the Holiday Bowl would prefer Indiana (it wouldn’t), the conference will send Iowa here.

And Iowa's PAC 12 Opponent?

The Holiday Bowl has the third selection from the Pac 12. If the Pac 12 gets a team in the Playoff, that moves down to fourth. USC will most likely be the third selection, so the Trojans will play in this game if the Pac 12 has no Playoff team. If Utah does make the Playoff, then USC will go to the Alamo Bowl, and the Holiday Bowl will most likely take Washington. Cal and Arizona State are technically options as well, but I would be very surprised if it’s not USC or Washington. (The Holiday Bowl might try to select Washington over USC if both are available. That’s technically against Pac 12 rules, but the bowl might try to get an exception made for Chris Petersen’s final game.)

Think bigger
Citrus (67%) or Holiday (33%).

Some more from that article from USA Today.

Some excerpts:

Citrus Bowl
Restrictions: Penn State
Likely B1G teams: Wisconsin, Michigan
Potential Opponents: Alabama

Penn State cannot play in this game because it played in the Citrus Bowl last year.

If Wisconsin falls this far, it will be tough for the Citrus Bowl to give up the Big Ten runner-up Badgers.

Of course, the Citrus Bowl gets New Years’ Day billing and gets to pick its teams from the Big Ten and the SEC. The prospect of Michigan vs Alabama will just be too lucrative for the Citrus Bowl to give up. At this point, it would be shocking to see any other matchup.

Remember, though that the Citrus Bowl only gets a Big Ten team if an SEC team plays in the Orange Bowl.

Holiday Bowl. USC. We all knew it was coming.

On Nov 3 Scott was pointing to the Holiday Bowl.

That doesn't exactly make SD Nostradamus. Before the season even started, just about all Hawkeye fans figured the Holiday Bowl was our most likely post-season destination if we had a typical 7-8 win year. The 9-win year had some hoping for Orlando vs. 'Bama, and bid restrictions had some concerned about falling to Santa Clara, yet here we are.....

i think the main difference is so many national "experts" were projecting Iowa to the Gator Bowl on November 1 and he explained 2 days later, on Nov 3, why that likely was not happening
