An Iowa City building that houses the Veterans Health Administration, U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Army Reserve Recruiting offices could be sold after the Trump administration deemed it "not core to government operations" on Tuesday.
The Iowa City Federal Building at 400 S. Clinton Street appears on a list of 433 buildings across 47 states marked for "disposal" by the General Services Administration, which manages the federal government's real estate portfolio.
One of the main tenants of the building, according to the GSA, is the Iowa City VA Clinic, which offers physical and occupational therapy, extended care and rehabilitation.
The U.S. Post Office of Iowa City called the building home until 2015.
The local federal building is joined by Des Moines' Neal Smith Federal Building as the two Iowa locations under consideration for "disposal."
