This is pretty cool. The spot they are going into is excellent too - already has sand volleyball and pickle ball courts. Looking forward to this:

Best damn clam chowder in the Midwest!

How come?

I wish they'd do something with the empty eye sore across the street. Heard a hotel was going up but haven't seen anything
If it comes to fruition (I believe this is the third plan since they tore down the Howard Johnsons) it looks like a pretty decent development that will finally put a proper bookend on the east portion of the downtown business district:

There is one in North Liberty as we speak. It is decent but not great for watching games. Never understood how people can run a sports bar and have no idea what games are on and what channel to find them at.
Yeah it's like a mile away from me and I rarely visit it. Even the food doesn't seem the same but that just may be the atmosphere. It's just not downtown Iowa City.

Fantastic - I was hoping for some sort of grocery store but this looks really nice. Hopefully it works out!

After that they really need to do something with that empty lot in the Village. Looks terrible and is a constant area of cars getting broken in to (mine included)

You aren't one of those Karens that thinks downtown Davenport is too "dangerous" are ya?
No, just wish it was closer to the heart of downtown. Maybe walking distance from Adler or even Modern Woodman.

Plus I hate Lopez, owner is a douchebag.

It's like two blocks away from The Adler lol

I'm just giving you crap, but the area with Armored Gardens, Lopiez, Devon's Complaint Dept, etc and all the stuff on Motor Row is really making that area come along

Yeah, no one from the idiot city is following up on the trail of crap Andrew Wold left behind. I wrote about that - and the long-neglected Hostess project - on my Substack awhile back.

I believe that Hostess developer also got pre-project tax breaks from the state and hasn't done a damn thing to move the project forward for almost a decade! But no one is paying attention or holding people accountable anymore.

That's frustrating -- happy at least about this new proposal by QC Times. Hopefully that gets the green light

I was in Davenport a month or so ago for a weekend with friends from across the country. Loved Devon's, actually stopped in twice in one night, second vist was a blur. Went to Armored Gardens. Had a really nice meal at the bar at Half Nelson. Late night pizza from Lopiez. Sang karaoke somewhere. I had been out in downtown Davenport before, but my friends were surprised.

Hell even the breakfast sandwich from Redband was excellent.

I thought Mickey's was owned by Mondanaro. Did he sell it a while back?

There is a really nice little core area of successful businesses and residences. Just need to get the momentum to head a bit west now.

Getting that last parcel on the east edge - where the old hotel used to be - back to fully occupied and producing tax dollars will help.

Sounds like Athletic Club in Cville.
Everytime we go to enjoy some beverages and watch 3-4 games at once their TVs are a mess.
Same game on 4 TVs in one spot, gopher vs whoever two weeks ago on a Saturday while there were great football games on. Staff just lacks awareness there sometimes. Love the bartenders there though!

Yeah, seems like a nice core to me. Arcades are not for everyone, but I also like Analog and have had an excellent meal at Cavort as well. I'd take the Davenport downtown nightlife experience over what I remember in downtown DSM on Court Ave circa 2013-2015 and certainly over the suburban type West Des Moines night life.

I wonder if the karaoke was at Boozies down the road? I go there for lunch quite a bit and have also had some blurry nights there.

Across the street from Half Nelson, Great River Brewery has gone through a big remodel as well. Not a huge fan of their beer but the inside is really nice. Unrecognizable from before.

Great to hear you had a good time! As torbee mentioned, Downtown D has really made some good changes. Still a ways to go but definitely improving!

Also now that you mention it, I'm definitely getting a bfast sandwich from redband tomorrow morning. Love those things

It wasn't Boozies, I would have remembered that. Have gotten their wings before.

It will be a convenient location for QC Times employees to gather for lunch and map out their new career paths.
