An Iowa City man was arrested Monday after a 16-year-old boy, who had chatted with the man online while posing as a 14-year-old girl, reported him to the Iowa City Police Department.

Mark Christian Zogg-Kellett, 26, is charged with three counts of grooming and three counts of attempting to entice a minor under 16.

According to a warrant request filed in the case, a 16-year-old boy called the police department on Oct. 26 to report that “he knew of a sexual predator in the Iowa City area.” The boy told police he had been “scouring the internet looking for ‘predators’ and ‘found one.’”

The boy told police that he met Zogg-Kellett on Emerald, an anonymous app that lets users chat with random people. The boy pretended to be a 14-year-old girl named “Gracie,” when talking with Zogg-Kellett.

The conversation moved to Discord — another messaging app — and then the boy asked Zogg-Kellett to move the conversation to Facebook, where he had set up a fake account for Gracie, in order to get Zogg-Kellett’s real name. The boy connected with a Facebook account for a person named Christian Kellett, who police were able to identify as Zogg-Kellett.

In the Discord conversation, Zogg-Kellett discussed arrangements to meet with Gracie for sexual intercourse, and he expressed a desire to have sex with someone her age, the warrant request states.

After serving a warrant to Discord for Zogg-Kellett’s messaging information, police found a similar conversation between Zogg-Kellett and someone who identified themselves as a 12-year-old. In the conversation, Zogg-Kellett stated he wanted to have sex with the child and talked about meeting with them, according to a later warrant request in which police requested more information from Discord about the other account Zogg-Kellett was communicating with.

According to criminal complaints, Zogg-Kellett also communicated in September with someone who he believed was 15 years old and attempted to entice them to have sexual relations with him.

Zogg-Kellett was arrested Monday and had his first appearance in court Tuesday. He was released without bond.

How is this not a Wouldja? I wood and those lips would be very good at it.

Glad he got busted.

But this: The boy told police he had been “scouring the internet looking for ‘predators’ and ‘found one.’”

Is a REALLY weird freaking hobby!
I imagine a defense attorney will have a field day with this... wrongly or rightly. Police need to be very careful about entrapment, I can see where an attorney might work this into the defense
