IOWA CITY — An Iowa City woman faces a terrorism charge after police say she threatened government employees.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, on two occasions between July 27 and Aug. 3, 21-year-old Sarrina T. Bancroft made threats to “blow up” the Department of Human Services offices, 855 S. Dubuque St. Those threats were made both in person and over the phone, authorities said.
Bancroft threatened to shoot up the DHS offices and “kill or injure” anyone involved in her son’s Child in Need of Assistance case, including DHS workers, employees in the Johnson County Attorney’s Office and judges, police said. Bancroft also threatened to “hunt down” families involved in the case and kill their children and spouses, police said.
The sheriff’s office said the threats were intended to intimidate the people involved and prevent them from terminating her parental rights. The threats were witnessed by multiple people and caused the targets of the threats to fear for their well-being, authorities said.
Bancroft has been arrested and faces one count of threat of terrorism, a Class D felony punishable by five years in prison.
