Iowa concessions embarrassing

My daughter and I went to the Iowa basketball game a few weeks ago on a Friday night. They had Three total concession stands open and we went to get a hotdog with 13 minutes left in the first half. We got back to our seat at the end of halftime
here’s an idea go out to eat before the game..... I go to a lot of events and haven’t used concessions in years..... standing in line for overpriced shitty food is not high on my agenda

it’s amazing how annoying capitalists find the fact workers on the bottom end of the pay scale might be getting higher wages because of supply and demand or they might have to wait longer for their ****ing hotdogs 😂😂😂

The real tragedy is no popcorn or ice cream in the Feller Club room!

I was at the game and just told my kids prior we would not do any concessions as we would miss half the game. That worked great. It appeared to be a slow moving debacle in the lines. They are missing out on making big chunks of money by not selling more beer/ice cream. I can’t figure out why the University could not pay other groups(students) good amounts of money to run a concession stand. It would still be very profitable. Make it too hard to pass up for students (like $200/game).
They could but the vendors pay big $$$ for the contracts so the university would lose a bunch of outside $$$. There are plenty of workers available. The problem is that employees are driving the market at the moment as workers are leaving other jobs at a record pace. That in turn is driving up wages as employers are scrambling to fill vacancies. Food and Service industries are struggling the most. We have to bring back manufacturing so that low skilled workers have opportunities or we will continue to see the food service/retail industries demand raises more frequently as often those who are employed in food/service retail have few options. It's also why there's so many unhappy workers. These low pay jobs should be filled by high school students getting their first job and retirees trying to stay busy not people trying to make a living. But many low income, low skill workers have no other jobs to turn to.

A lot of places are having trouble with help and supply. Look at Iowa State letting fans bring treats in to the stadium. The lost revenue is nothing to sneeze at. So, have to assume they are doing the best they can in this weird environment.
You're acting as if this is a new problem. It has been the norm at Carver for decades.

Low skill, low pay workers have more job opportunities than any time in our history.

It was never bad under Trump - you can thank Dementia Joe for all of this shit.

Yeah...2020 never happened lol. What a great year that was.

Ok Chief lol...

There are no beer lines whatsoever. I have just walked up and grabbed a beer several times with nobody in line in front of me.

Don’t know if it is still the case, but the concessions (not ice cream) were all volunteers. I worked Carver concessions free for the city high band who basically bid the job against other groups & then begged parents to do the work. Volunteers!
Which is also why they are terrible & slow and can’t make change.

I heard they were email university staff asking for VOLUNTEERS... Maybe send an email and freaking pay them! You charge $4 for a cone and $7 for a cheap a plastic bowl of ice cream. And you miss out on a lot of sales that could pay workers. Aren't they making MORE money with beer sales? I'd think that'd cover paying workers.

$8 for a vitamin water in the cone line...I didn't want to buy one, but after waiting for 20mins for ice cream and vitamin water was the only drink choice, I asked for one....rather than waiting another 20mins in another line..... The worker then said they only had one WARM vitamin water.

What a $h*t show.

-. End of rant.

Enjoyed the game

The cashless thing kind of sucks. The lady friend and kid held the line up not knowing that last week. She had thrown a couple 20s in her pocket so she didn't have to carry in her purse. I ran into a family member when we were walking around the concourse before the game. I stopped and said I'd meet them back at our seats as it was getting close to tip off. They stopped for ice cream and then I get the call after I beat them back... When I got up there with my wallet the people behind her were offering to take her cash and add it to their order.

I always carry cash just in case, but I don't get this huge push in society to go cashless for small transactions. In a facility where the clock malfunctions every game what happens when they have an IT error where they can't scan cards?

The most common excuse is Covid of course.
