Iowa fans hope for a constant, as we seek change, as well

In 1981, how special a season it was, Iowa entered the season, 0-2 against their scheduled opponent (Nebraska) the last two seasons.

Last year, Iowa opened the season 0-2, then regrouped, and put on a six straight victory season together, maintaining their sixth straight streaks against Minnesota and Nebraska.

Iowa also ended losing streaks at Penn State and Wisconsin. The ebbs and flows the final six games are the constants any team seek: A W in the win column.

Kirk Ferentz said last month, in affect, the 2020 team wasn't quite there, as a team, in Week 1 and Week 2.

We saw that in 1982, as well, one of Hayden Fry's better teams by season end, much like the 2008 Hawkeyes under Kirk Ferentz.

What would KF say, he was there for both the 1981 and 1982 seasons. One of fine constants for Iowa over the past 40 years.

He has been a staple throughout much of the past 40 years of joys in Iowa Football. His experience at Maine and the NFL are a part of his story, as well.

We heard this summer talk about what Iowa Football means to his son, Brian, our OC today. Brian mentioned it is often common to remember the sorrows. Though it is 66 yards, not 88 Wisconsin held Iowa to up in Madison in 2017, Brian.

As much as we want Iowa to maintain the constants. We seek change in 2021, with a much anticipated season approaching.

A need to end the slow starts. A wish to maintain the constants in three trophy games, while finding ways to reverse trends against others.

“I still don’t think much has changed about our program very much,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. “The reality of who we are isn’t very different than where we were four or five years ago, other than the fact of, from my standpoint, it’s not going to get any easier. Still, how we do what we do is still really challenging. It’s not just, ‘Man, we’ve got this all the talent, we’ve got to be an elite team.’

Let's hope Iowa's five straight win steak continues.
